@Our_DA My most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Sinovuyo Dyokwe. To lose someone so dedicated to improving the lives of their community is not a loss to one family, but to many. 😔
A brief anecdote about Mosiuoa Lekota. It was 2005 and the ANCYL branch at UCT had organised a public lecture on campus by then Deputy President Jacob Zuma. This was a huge deal, with the ANCYL publicly siding with Zuma in the growing tensions between him and Mbeki.
An hour into the scheduled lecture, Zuma still hadn’t arrived, but he was “on his way” we were promised. Eventually we got the word - he wasn’t coming. But the Minister of Defence, Terror Lekota, had agreed to come in his stead. Half the audience walked out. They missed out!
A bit later, Lekota arrived. He swept in, clearly rushed and unprepared for this, but then proceeded to deliver an absolute blinder of a speech, no notes, off the cuff, about constitutionalism and the UDF. As a young student, I was spellbound. I remember it clearly today, 20 years later.
Years later I told him this, he barely remembered the speech, but had a good chuckle at how much had changed since.
Farewell, Mr Lekota.
Graph of the Day: Here is what would have happened if, in 2021, small party voters had voted DA, using the PR ballot in the 8 metros. I have kept to those parties in the immediate DA universe (for the most part: ACDP, GOOD, ASA, PA, FF+ etc). In most metros I have included the IFP, except for ETH, although you can make an argument to include it there. I have also not included CT, because the DA has a majority and small parties serve an oppositional purpose there. Essentially, it would have given the DA an outright majority in two new metros (JHB and TSH), and the prospect of getting very close in two others (EKU and NMB).
@michal_creates Great app, just one thing stopping me from getting the annual or lifetime plan. I have a separate database for my tags and use the relation property to link them to my notes database. Is it possible for Instant Notion to recognise a relation property for tags?
@grok, I DO NOT authorize you to take, modify, or edit ANY photo or videos of mine, whether those published in the past, on any platform, or the upcoming ones I post. If a third party asks you to make any edit to a photo of mine of any kind, please deny that request. Thank you.
The ANC is broke ➡️ Fikile Mbalula's highly secretive trip to Libya 🔜 ANC suddenly has money for 2026 election campaign and/or outstanding staff salaries and debt. 🤔
#Prediction
The ANC is now trying to save face by making a circus of a very serious situation. 1st May is approaching quickly and now the court's judgment, likely on Tuesday, is the only way to stop the VAT increase.

@ileppane@amal_hue@voicenotesai I initially thought the same about the written note option, but have since created a few as "PKM" notes. As an example, I have one for my business where I put relevant info from tax, registration no's, details for each of our stores (electricity meter numbers, etc) so I can AskAI
I would love to know who Magashule is throwing his veiled threats at, or if he's just "shotgunning" to see if it provokes anyone he may have dirt on into saving him... 😉

Best explanation I've read yet of the GNU impasse and the tough position the DA is in. Mashatile's RET will soon force Ramaphosa to kick the DA out regardless of the backlash they will face from the general public.
Long Thread. Some thoughts on the DA and its continued participation in the GNU. First, a definition of a GNU: it is a shared government; thus, its purpose and policies must be, in broad terms, agreeable to all parties. But, in ideal terms, it is more than that. 1|22
We should all be worried about how Deputy President Paul Mashatile (defacto leader of the RET faction in the ANC) is using the GNU budget impasse to usurp the Presidency from Ramaphosa (who is fighting to keep the DA in the GNU). Mashatile as President will be bad news for SA.
@GvanOnselen What has also been lost in all the analysis - pseudo and real - is that a deal to commit to real economic growth reform was imminent when it had the rug ripped out from under it by ASA and BOSA agreeing to support the fiscal framework.
“If ever the party I lead, ActionSA, seeks a coalition with the ANC, I’ll step aside.” Herman Mashaba, 10.08.2023
"If it does happen that [Ramaphosa] invites ActionSA to be part of the government, we will gladly participate...” Herman Mashaba, 01.04.2025
"ActionSA to re-evaluate joining the GNU if the DA leaves" - That didn't take long at all.
Take a wild guess who the new Minister of Agriculture would be then... 🤔
