Anytime I see Aerith and Tifa posted in any “who would you choose” post, I know the poster is a shipper. Any time I see them together as a team, I know shippers are going to spam the comments putting down one character or the other. Seriously, they are friends, and they are both written by K. Nojima. Spoiler alert, he wrote them both as strong heroines. I have some issues with OG, but in the compilation, they are both awesome.

ときどき「わしの元ポストを読んで、なぜこのコメントをしようと思ったのだろう」と不思議に思うことがある。けれど、その人の普段のポストを拝読すると、なるほど、その人にとってはごく自然な反応なのだとわかる。人はそれぞれ、自分の文脈を背負ってXを歩いている。面白い。やめられない（笑）

昔話。

FFVIIIのときはパーティーメンバーが全員そろうと、ほかのキャラクターをほとんど登場させられないという問題があった。ゲーム上はそれほど困らないけれど、シナリオにはかなり制限がかかる。

だから次に担当したXでは「バトルに支障のないギリギリまでメンバーを減らしてくだせえ。おねがいします」なんて折衝をした。初めてのPS2で、みんな手探りだったこともあり「風呂敷を広げすぎない」という合意もあったように思う。

また、何作か経験したあとで痛感していたのは、大きくて見栄えの良い街並みを作っても、そこで暮らす人々を町の規模に見合うほど表示できないこと。閑散とした町、まるでゴーストタウンのようになってしまう。（廃墟や遺跡は見た目も良いし、人がいなくても自然なのでつい多用してしまう）

そんなわけで、Xには小さな集落ばかりが登場する。
「町が大きくならない世界」という設定で、その事情を補強していた。それでも「生活」を描くのは難しかった。

……という流れがあったので、FFVIIRのスラムを見たときは感動した。埃っぽい街に、大勢の人がちゃんと暮らしていた。長年夢見た世界だった。しかも何が素晴らしいって、チームが全部作ってくれたこと。楽！
「あれ、どうやってるの？」と聞いたら「クックックッ……」って。
