Hyvää Juhannusta (Happy Midsummer) to all of our Finnish friends and colleagues. Thank you for all of your support for our successful experiment at the University of Jyväskylä Accelerator Lab @jyflacclab studying pear-shaped protactinium nuclei. @uniofjyvaskyla@UniWestScotland
Day 1 of the 2024 UWS Research Festival #UWSResearchFestival was held today at our beautiful London campus. Thanks to keynote speaker Anne-Wil Harzing @AWHarzing for the valuable insights into academic career development, and for the impressive owl. @ResearchUWS@UniWestScotland
This building, surrounded by beautiful green Finnish nature, is the Accelerator Lab @jyflacclab at the University of Jyväskylä @uniofjyvaskyla. Here, we are presently carrying out cutting-edge nuclear physics research studying exotic actinide nuclei. @jyuscience@UniWestScotland
Today is Day 3 of our experiment studying the structure of exotic plutonium isotopes with the AGATA gamma-ray spectrometer at Legnaro National Laboratory. All going well so far thanks to a fantastic team of collaborators. @UniWestScotland@UniPadova@INFN_@STFC_Matters
Congratulations to Ryan Meeten, Lecturer in Physics, for being shortlisted for Lecturer Of The Year at the #SAUWS Big Awards yesterday. Apparently there were 180 nominations in total in this category so being shortlisted is a big achievement. Well done Ryan! @uwsdps@UWSstudents
Yesterday, Dr Luigi Capponi from the ELI-NP facility in Bucharest visited UWS @UniWestScotland to give a presentation about new developments at the facility, including a novel experiment to study two-gamma decay. Thanks Luigi. I hope you had a good trip back to Romania.
If there was a competition to find the most beautiful nuclear physics lab in the world then surely JYFL @jyflacclab at the University of Jyväskylä would win. Even on a cloudy day in July, it still looks great. Thanks JYFL for another successful experiment. @jyscience
On Monday, Dr Ross Birney @RossBirney joined UWS @UniWestScotland as a Lecturer in Physics and a member of Institute for Thin Films, Sensors, and Imaging @ITFSI_UWS. He may look familiar as he was a PhD student and then a PDRA here until he left us in 2017. Welcome (back) Ross!
Huge congratulations to Ryan Meeten (Lecturer in Physics, pictured here with wife Sarah) for winning the award for Outstanding Teaching at the 2019 #UWSStars event yesterday. Well done Ryan, excellent work, thoroughly deserved. @UniWestScotland@SchoolCEPS
Last week, Dr Michael Bowry @MikeBowry joined the UWS Nuclear Physics Group @UniWestScotland as a Lecturer in Physics. He spent the last six years working @TRIUMFLab in Vancouver and @NSCL in Michigan. We are very happy to welcome him back to the UK. @SchoolCEPS @PhysicsatSurrey
Dr Laura Harkness-Brennan @LauraHBPhysics from the University of Liverpool @livuniphysics visited UWS @UWSPhysics this afternoon to give a seminar about new developments in gamma-ray imaging with CZT detectors. Excellent novel research and a fantastic seminar. Thanks Laura!
We have recently advertised a Lectureship position in the Nuclear Physics Research Group at UWS. The position has a fixed term, for two years. Closing date for applications: 31/8/18. Details at https://t.co/vqkTXeiqjP Contact [email protected] for informal enquiries.
We have two fully-funded PhD studentships available in the Nuclear Physics Research Group at UWS. Start date 1/10/18 or ASAP thereafter. Details on https://t.co/J4XtX0leoN at https://t.co/HosW1AYNJ7 or contact [email protected] for informal enquiries.
Today is the last day of our experiment using GRIFFIN with ISAC at TRIUMF, studying decays of neutron-rich cesium isotopes, led by Dr Liam Gaffney @lpgaff. It was very successful and we now have lots of beautiful data to be analysed by some lucky PhD students. Thanks @TRIUMFLab.
