Not every player mentioned will actually move on! You’re always hopeful we may hold to a player or two for another season.. Celtic may look for a certain fee… then the buying club don’t match it.. end result he stays.

I can see several players going out the door.. Celtic are a selling club but then need to replace sold players with some quality.. not always easy to replace top draw players you sell for a big profit.

I know Celtic have not made a signing yet.. they do have previous of leaving it relatively late before moving for players ! Possibly striker on his way.. surely Martin will want 4/5 new additions in before end of window ! It’s a must. 🍀

You read quite a few stories and tales on these platforms.. which are made up..but I must say this story is legitimately true in every sense of the word ! Apart from Martin being scared !

When John Hartson played for Martin O’Neill at Celtic, the relationship worked because both of them knew exactly what the other one was.

Hartson scored goals.

O’Neill trusted him.

And Celtic supporters loved him.

But O’Neill also knew something else about him.

Hartson was not exactly going to spend 90 minutes chasing full-backs into the corner flag.

Years later, the two of them were on stage together at a Celtic event in Glasgow, with Hartson’s family sitting there watching it all.

O’Neill could easily have been kind.

He chose not to be.

“I know your lovely family is here but I have to tell them you were the laziest player I ever managed.”

Hartson was sitting there taking it.

Then O’Neill brought up one of his favourite examples.

It was during a game at Celtic.

Hartson had already scored what turned out to be the winning goal.

Only for O’Neill, that did not make much difference.

By then, Hartson had done what Hartson sometimes did.

He had disappeared from the game.

So O’Neill looked over at him and came out with:

“John, get warmed up, you’re coming off.”

Hartson did not take that well.

And when Hartson did come off, he was furious.

He confronted O’Neill afterwards, and for once, O’Neill admitted it was not one he was especially keen to escalate.

“That was a battle that I was certainly not going to win.”

“If there had been a sort of a physical fight about it.”

Hartson eventually calmed down and apologised.

They got on brilliantly after that.

But O’Neill still remembered the moment clearly.

“At that particular moment, I must admit, I was a bit frightened.”
