In case anyone is wondering how reconciliation is going: an Indigenous woman died in Burnside jail this week from pneumonia at 27 YEARS OLD.

Female identifying Indigenous Peoples represent 40% of incarcerated female-identifying individuals despite making up only 4% of the entire population of Canada.
All NS offices will be closed tomorrow. We at JHSNS will take time to learn and reflect upon the importance of this day. This day provides us with the opportunity to unlearn the deeply held harmful beliefs related to colonialism, Indigenous Peoples and Canadian history.
We at JHSNS recognize that Indigenous Peoples are overrepresented in the carceral system:
- Male Identifying people represent 28% of the incarcerated population despite comprising only 4% of the total population in Canada.
