Elias's comparison is the one worth sitting with. When Bill Clinton briefly boarded Loretta Lynch's plane on a Phoenix tarmac in 2016 and they talked about grandchildren and golf - no documented request, no documented outcome, a conversation - the media treated it as a scandal that required weeks of coverage. Trump stood at a podium in Pennsylvania, described personally calling a federal prosecutor to investigate an election while his preferred candidate was losing, and the Pennsylvania federal prosecutor was sitting in the audience being publicly thanked. Elias: none of the reporters present found this worthy of a question.
The normalization that allows that to happen is not benign. When the president describes using the federal prosecution apparatus to intervene in a state election and it registers as a moment of rally color rather than a constitutional question, the mechanism that would otherwise produce accountability has been eroded. That erosion is itself the story underneath the story.
Here’s an in-depth New York Times article on how Trump, his family, and his cronies are abusing their government power to line their pockets and using billions of your tax dollars to facilitate their grifting. Note that the $8.9 billion in federal money going to the 14 Trump and Lutnick companies is equal to the entire amount of federal assistance Western North Carolina has received for Hurricane Helene recovery.
Rampant corruption in plain sight . . . and Republicans see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil.
Here’s an excerpt from the article and a free link to the entire piece:
“Ahead of the deal, the Trump administration approved preliminary applications for as much as $1.6 billion in federal financing for the American company, now called Kaz Resources, which plans to break ground on the project in rural Kazakhstan.
It was not only Mr. Trump and Mr. Lutnick who saw an opportunity.
Their sons were soon doing business with partners in a deal that their fathers were negotiating, continuing a pattern of self-enrichment in the second Trump administration that has few precedents in American history.”
. . . . .
“One or both families have financial ties to at least 14 companies that are actively working with the federal government on critical mining deals, including the Kazakhstan project, according to federal filings examined by The New York Times.
All 14 of these companies have either benefited directly from offers of financial assistance from the Trump administration, or have pending permit applications before the Commerce Department, which Mr. Lutnick oversees, The Times found. The total amount of federal funding that the Trump administration has provided or is considering providing to the companies exceeds $8.9 billion, according to public statements by the companies and federal government.”

Trump ripped up the walkway between the West Wing and the mansion to replace it with polished African granite carved in Italy. "Paid for by me," he claimed. Except that's not true. Taxpayers paid $689,232, per documents obtained by @michaelscherer https://t.co/7l2bkD0MIH
Meet MAGAt Adriana Camberos who has the honor of being pardoned by Trump not once but twice.
Originally convicted in an elaborate counterfeit energy drink conspiracy, her sentence was commuted by Trump in 2021. Shortly after her release, she and her brother embarked on a separate wholesale grocery fraud scheme, resulting in a 2024 conviction and a $48.8 million restitution order. Trump issued her a second full pardon in January 2026.
The death toll from the catastrophic double earthquake in Venezuela is now at 1,430 people, with an incomprehensible 68,000 people still missing. This is now one of the worst natural disasters in human history.
While the U.S. has pledged $150 million in aid, this is not enough. It must immediately lift all remaining sanctions and not use this disaster to take further advantage of Venezuela.
Venezuela will need the help of the entire world to recover, but what it does not need is the boot of the U.S. empire on its neck.
Kagan's dissent is the legal document that will be read when historians examine what this Court did in this moment. She found that the majority's conclusion required setting aside comments that were "so repellent and racially inflected" that the Court itself would not reproduce them in its opinion - and then ruling anyway that those comments were insufficient evidence of racial animus.
The legal standard the majority applied: courts cannot question the process immigration authorities use to revoke TPS, regardless of the statements accompanying that process. The practical consequence: 350,000 people who have lived here legally, worked, built families, enrolled children in schools - exposed to deportation to a country where four women returned in February were found beheaded. Viles Dorsainvil, who runs a support center for Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, said families are going to work, kids are going to school, and the Court just put all of it on stop. The Senate has a bipartisan House-passed bill sitting in front of it. They could act today.
AOC: Mike Johnson paints this as though it’s some partisan witch hunt. But if you don’t want to be prosecuted for crimes, don’t do crimes.
And he’s talking about running a protection racket. And we are already seeing that this Trump administration has run what some have called one of the largest pedophile protection programs in American history.
And so when Mike Johnson tells a group of wealthy donors, I'm the only thing standing between you, and a consequence that should rattle at the conscience of every American.
What he wants to do is create—or rather, not even create, because it’s already been created—but protect a class of impunity in America that says, “You can commit whatever crime, and so long as you pay a check to us, we will protect you.”
And that is a model of extortion in American politics. And you know what? That’s their pitch.
America 250 was going to be like a World Fair that would have attracted millions of people.
But Trump stole the money, denied permits, & renamed it Freedom 250 so he could make it all about himself & Republicans.
Trump stole America's Birthday from you! 🤬
“Jeffrey Epstein believed he was above the law.
Pictures obtained by The Telegraph of the comfortable office that the sex offender frequented while he was supposed to be in prison show that, in many ways, he was. We have raked through more than 1,000 documents related to the Florida Science Foundation, a bogus charity Epstein set up to secure a place on a generous work release scheme while he was in jail. Photographs obtained from inside the office lift the lid on the real-world luxuries Epstein had access to while serving an 18-month jail sentence for a child sex offence from June 2008.
These show he was treated to a flat-screen TV, a DVD player, Mac computers and stacks of books in the fake company headquarters where he spent up to 16 hours a day. It will place fresh scrutiny on the lenient work release scheme Epstein was granted access to while in prison, including over the extent to which authorities turned a blind eye to his activities.
A work release report from July 11 2009 records a female visitor meeting with Epstein
Victims of Epstein have also alleged in recent weeks that they were abused at the rented offices while the sex offender was supposed to be working. That will pose serious questions for the high-profile associates who interacted with him during his time there.

Johnson: If we lose the midterms, these Democrats will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they'll go after the president's family, the cabinet, his donors, friends, half of you in this room will be targeted. I run the protection program. We’ll take care of you.
I readily admit that I am not an unbiased observer given that I was born and raised in Haiti before becoming an American citizen but, if Trump’s statements about Haitians do not show racial animus, I’m not sure what he could ever say that would qualify.
This regime acts like Nazis with such frequency—explicitly deporting whole categories of people based on race, explicitly *importing* whole categories of people based on race, reframing our founding principles as devoutly fascist—that it's no wonder they squeal when called Nazis.
The Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Trump administration to end legal protections for Haitians and Syrians is heartbreaking and morally dangerous.
We are talking about people who fled violence, instability, natural disaster, civil war, and conditions no human being should be forced to endure. Many have built lives here, raised families here, worked here, and contributed to communities across this nation.
America has a long history of deciding which people are worthy of refuge, dignity, and protection, too often along lines of race, ethnicity, religion, and national origin. We must tell the truth about that history. Black and Brown people seeking safety have too often been met with suspicion, cruelty, and rejection instead of compassion and justice.
Temporary Protected Status was created to protect people from being sent back into danger. Ending those protections for Haitian and Syrian families is not just a legal decision. It is a moral one.
We must choose humanity.

Uh oh... CNBC just admitted AI demand is falling and that's why SpaceX, Anthropic and OpenAI are rushing to go public.
If CNBC is telling you this, the party is already over. 🚨
Worth noting that none of the other Justices signed on to Thomas’ concurrence or his position on due process. His citations to his opinion were all his own dissents and concurrences. Also goes against decades of SCOTUS precedent on the topic. In short, he’s wrong.

Unearthed audio: RFK Jr. pushes a third-party candidate to drop out in exchange for a taxpayer-funded position in the federal government:
“I can’t go into specifics because there’s legal prohibitions about that.”
