@surgeonshall That’s jolly interesting that Simpson the Bear lives in Bathgate because Sir James Young Simpson was born there on 7th June 1811. #surgeonshall
@Whoamiftr Oh yes. It wasn’t only in your lungs that you could get TB. The bacteria mostly goes for the lungs but can also infect other parts of the body. It’s a mycobacterium. I don’t know if you know that I am a retired GP
@THE_Gen_Show ScotlandsPeople - because (1) most of my research is Scotland based; (2) it’s 95% reliable; (3) one generally gets what one pays for; (4) the staff are jolly helpful; (5) I like going to Edinburgh (obviously cannot at the present time due to the SARS pandemic).
@Whoamiftr Yep. Not to be confused with tabes dorsalis which is Degeneration in the nerves in the spinal cord caused by late stage syphilis #ancestryhour
@Whoamiftr More specifically tuberculosis of the sac enclosing the intestines. Tabes refers to wasting of the body. Phthisic pulmonalis is more familiar TB of lungs aka consumption, or if it’s bad galloping consumption #ancestryhour
Our MSc Forensic Science students can’t be in the lab as much as we would like this year, so we have made them a kit full of practical experiments they can do at home. We hope they’re excited to get started on the kit activities! #StrathForensics#StrathChem#StrathLife
Face coverings have been used throughout history to help keep us safe. Following Scottish Government advice we ask that you wear a face covering when you visit the Museum and our Gift Shop. Don't worry if you forget, just ask a member of our team and we will give you one.
@NickyAACampbell Remember you at Edinburgh Academy with that Robb chappie! You were the year below me but you moved up to Aberdeen where I was studying medicine in 1978 and started Northsound. I think I have a team photo of the 1885 23rd XV when you were the star stand off!
Going through some 17C #archives today and found this message embedded in the 1965 LDS filming of #Staffordshire OPRs #ancestryhour#genealogy Amazing that it was written 55 years ago buried into LDS film 007764610 #rqg Thank goodness for modern technology
Had an interesting an gruesome visit to #catacombs in #Paris earlier this month. Really fascinating. As the cemeteries in Paris got full the skeletal remains of older generations were removed into tunnels to make room for the newly deceased. Over 6 million of them. #ancestryhour
