@vicgoddard Similar here but we give a knowledge test and ask them to prepare and present a lesson. It's actually quite demanding for the candidates and you can glean a huge amount in a short time.
@LeeWoods0722 Assuming your not asking teachers to work longer days, broader means shallower. What is being removed? Also, why do you think methods of assessment need reviewing?
I think most police wear body cams. Why can't an algorithm use this data on the fly to select individuals for a body search for knives. This could be partly random, and partly machine learning. The algorithms can be open and reviewed for bias by all stakeholders. #knifecrime
@judyst60@edmunds_dr My thoughts exactly. It's easy to waltz in, entertain the students being Mr Popular, then sod off leaving the real teachers to pick up the pieces!
@Strickomaster So what would work for me is curriculum reform. When I was teaching computer science and they dropped the NEA due to cheating this was the best thing ever. We still have to do project work but it's now all about learning, not assessment.
@Strickomaster It's interesting following this thread and there is no mention of why I personally am unhappy at school (Design and Technology NEA). Look at the grade boundaries for component 2 and it tells you everything about who is expected to do all the work.
@Strickomaster It would make a significant difference, but don't worry, Ofted/govt are tone deaf on this. Summarizing a school's achievement with one word is an insult. Ignorant people and govt (easiest Venn diagram ever) will also read the headline and look no further.
@lehain Well it depends if your definition extends to "shared by nearly all people" as most definitions do. If so, we know he should have stayed at home, and not driven a car with failing eyesight on his wife's birthday trip!
