When the hype dies down, the problems in Number 10 remain the same for whoever holds the office. Keir Starmer is already governing through them. Stabilised the economy, invested in our public services, and he walks towards the problems, not away.
Porters offer care.
Some of the most moving experiences of my working life were as a hospital porter. Seeing the entire NHS team go towards rather away from human problems, illness, fear, and offer only care and help irrespective of who needs it was inspiring.
Sir Keir Starmer has resigned, and I think we are losing a good Prime Minister treated unfairly. My reflections on his record, on 'Westminster bubbleitis', and on the case for young people under whoever leads us next.

@furbabygirl Literally what we’re doing https://t.co/7f0ip4Hx2k & much more. It’s not perfect, but we’re moving in the right direction. The government also commissioned Alan Milburn to do a review specifically on the point you raised. Thanks for your comment.
The media just started asking if it's time for a Youth Triple Lock.
I've been making the case in Parliament since 2025, and calling for a Minister for Younger and Future Generations.
Good to see @lukejcr and others making the case too. The debate's catching up.
Amid debates on the future..
…we must focus on the voices & needs of youth
I’ve been saying this for some time in @HouseofCommons & beyond 👇🏻
👀 coined the phrase ‘Youth Triple Lock’
👀 called for a Minister for Younger & Future Generations

The government is banning abusive conversion practices in England and Wales to protect LGBT+ people from harm.
Watch Minister for Equalities, @oliviabaileymp announce the publication of draft laws in Parliament.
Growing up is hard, and young people have carried the pressure alone. That's changing. New Mental Health Support Teams are training at NHS Coventry and Warwickshire, coming to Rugby's schools next year. Help in the right place, at the right time. We're getting on with it.
Pure class from @Keir_Starmer in response to
@DesmondSwayne and also pure class of Desmond to have been so generous in what he did when the PM visited his constituency and also for noting 👇🏻 that we should remember that MPs and PMs are human beings.

Though I obviously fundamentally disagree with much of what the Prime Minister’s Government has done, I wish him and his family well during what will have been a testing time
Labour MPs should remember the tale of poor Jim: hold on to nurse, for fear of something much worse
A lovely surprise this week. Amy Zhang, chair of the Warwickshire Chinese Association, makes beautiful Chinese paper cutting. She also made me this, my zodiac sign, the rabbit. "It symbolises gentleness and hope." Worth holding onto. Thank you, Amy.
"Westminster bubbleitis", a condition where few square miles of London gets very excited, occasionally very concerned, and convinced the whole country feels the same.
Out in Rugby, people just kept writing in to say thank you to Keir Starmer. That tells you all.
I've signed an Early Day Motion registering my concerns about the new draft Code of Practice on the Equality Act. I don't normally sign EDMs, but here I felt I had to. My full statement below.
There is a human being at the heart of this, and we owe him our thanks. What comes next matters for the whole country. Whoever leads us should earn it through a proper contest, not a coronation. The public deserve to see candidates set out a real vision. Thank you, @Keir_Starmer.
Keir Starmer has been a PM of great integrity, who gave much of his life to public service long before Parliament. He took a Labour Party many had written off and rebuilt it. He led us back into government after 14 years and governed through the hardest of circumstances.
Modern politics:
Consumerisation
Rights not responsibilities
Instant gratification
Rolling news over analysis
Blame culture
Toxic social media
Charisma over character
Popularity over policy
Politics = my life over life experience
Disagreeing disagreeably
Short-termism
Out-dated
@Anna_Soubry@BBCNews@itvnews@SkyNews Thanks Anna.
It’s the modern disease…
Consumerisation of politics.
Rights not responsibilities.
Addiction to drama.
Instant not delayed gratification.
Rolling news not considered analysis.
Blame culture.
Toxic social media.
Democracy?
There is a human being at the heart of this story, and that matters more than the story. Keir Starmer put the country first at the G7 last week, then went straight back to the day job. He walks towards the problems, not away. We owe him the decency of remembering that.
Keir Starmer has a mandate from Labour members.
He stood on a manifesto and won a mandate from the British people
His challengers haven’t even bothered to challenge him.
What is their manifesto, their prospectus for 🇬🇧. What would their mandate be?
👑s are for Kings not PMs
We're not choosing the captain of a tiddlywinks club. We're choosing a Prime Minister. Anyone who wants that office should face real scrutiny and set out a vision for the whole country. The public deserve nothing less.
