One evening, Rahul checked his trading app.

He decided to withdraw the money.

That was when the trouble began.

He paid.

Then came another demand.

Rahul began to realise something was wrong. But the profits on his screen kept him hoping that one more payment would unlock everything.

It wouldn't. The profits were fabricated. The trap was designed to keep him paying.

This is how fake investment and trading app scams work.

This is not just an imaginary threat.

SEBI, India's market regulator, has warned investors about fraudulent trading apps promoted through social media, messaging groups and promises of unrealistic returns.

In a reported Pune case, an IT professional allegedly lost over ₹66 lakh after being lured into a fraudulent trading scheme. The platform reportedly displayed profits, but further money was demanded when he attempted to withdraw his funds.

Five red flags you must remember.

🚩 GUARANTEED PROFITS: No genuine stock-market investment guarantees risk-free returns.

🚩 EXCLUSIVE GROUPS: Beware of strangers offering insider tips or secret opportunities.

🚩 UNVERIFIED APPS: Check intermediaries through official SEBI and stock-exchange resources.

🚩 PERSONAL ACCOUNTS: Never transfer investment funds to unknown individuals.

🚩 PAY TO WITHDRAW: Demands for additional payments to release supposed profits are a serious warning sign.

What should you do?

Verify the broker before investing. Never chase profits under pressure.
