Bad first line:
"Hope you're doing well. I help companies grow."
Better first line:
"Saw you hired 2 SDRs last month. Most teams that do that still miss quota because the list is random. Want the 12-signal filter we use before any send?"
Same offer. Different open. The second one earns the reply.
@levelsio Same pattern in outbound. Over-regulate yourself with tools and compliance theater and you never leave the draft folder. Ship the plain email.
@JTLonsdale Outbound has that job too. Specific opens get ignored and dunked on. Keep sending the honest version anyway. Soft templates are the fake good.
@Jason Same fear with cold email agents. Unsupervised spray burns domains. Keep a human on the first line and the stop rules or you train spam, not pipeline.
@gregisenberg Roll-ups need outbound the hard way too. Buyers do not care about the thesis deck. Name the messy ops problem in line 1 or the email dies.
5 checks before I hit send on any cold email:
1. Can I name their hiring signal in line 1?
2. Would I open this in my own inbox?
3. Is the CTA one question, not a deck?
4. Did I cut every soft opener?
5. Can I send 40 more like it today?
Any no = rewrite.
