Tonight, Johnston defeated Urbandale 1-0 after double overtime and winning 4-1 in the penalty kick shootout in the Class 3A Region 7 Semifinal at DCG.

Our Johnston varsity boys soccer team ended their season tonight in the state quarterfinals but they didn’t go down without a fight! The 2-1 loss to Waukee Northwest featured highs and lows — both teams scoring in the last 4 minutes of regulation time, double overtime and a 4-3 loss in penalty kicks. Amazing effort, Dragons. Celebrating our learning! Timber Ridge 5th graders hosted a “wax museum” in which they showcased their research and presentation skills about people who had a positive impact on society, and how they made a difference. From Steve Jobs and Caitlyn Clark to Albert Einstein, Dr. Seuss and Stan Lee, the students showcased a wide variety of impactful people! 📚💜💛🎉

These 23 Johnston students scored in the top 2% of all third grade students in mathematics on the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) this spring!

The students will receive a medal this week and are nominees for National Math Stars, honoring the state’s most advanced young mathematicians in collaboration with the Iowa Department of Education.🏅🎉

We all cheered on our Johnston students who competed today at the state Special Olympics in Ames! We are so proud of you! 💜💛 We had several who made the podium including:
🥇 Alexandria won first place in the 30-meter motorized wheelchair
🥇 Aurora captured first in the softball throw
🥇 Aaron placed first in the softball throw
🥇and 🥈 Alben took first in softball throw and second in the 50-meter dash
🥈 Alma took second in the 50-meter dash
🥉 Lal placed third in the 50-meter dash

🏅Alex placed fourth in the softball throw

👩🏽‍🍳Eight JHS students earned their ProStart Certificate of Achievement (COA) for the 2025–2026 school year! They were honored Thursday at a special event, where Iowa ProStart Coordinator May Schaben and the Chef Anthony Nace presented students with their COA’s.

👏Congratulations to Kyra Anderson, Timothy Copeland, Emmanuel Curtis, Jaelyn Davenport, Joseph Feuerhelm, Addy Kueper, Emina Mehmedovic, and Dyanna Williams for earning this achievement.

📝To earn the COA, students must complete Level One and Two courses, score at least 70% on the final, work 400+ hours in the restaurant industry and meet 52 of 75 of the workplace competencies.
