Solopreneur, building Equilibrition
- Also AI consultant
- Also : Nanocorp Ambassador, running QuotAi & Vakado autonomously
- Also trying to be an awesome dad.
Last week, I started a company on Nanocorp on Tuesday.
By Thursday, I already had $229 in my account.
And I didn’t start this company on Tuesday by chance. It was the beginning of the @NanoCorpHQ hackathon.
We had 84 hours to generate as much money as possible. And since it was capitalism turned into a game, whoever made the most money… won money!
What an incredible concept. So obviously, I joined!
Thanks to my revenue, I made it into Nanocorp’s top companies.
But unfortunately, I got beaten right at the finish line.
Another guy built a SaaS that was even more profitable than mine and generated $306 in 84 hours.
So I finished second. But that’s not what I’ll remember most.
What I’ll remember is what I managed to build in just a few hours.
And above all, the fact that I managed to sell a product that didn’t even exist yet!
That was a huge lesson for me.
Because I’d already heard advice like this plenty of times:
“Just build a landing page to test the market. If people buy, you can start building afterward.”
But that always sounded unbelievable to me.
Me, an engineer, selling thin air!
But actually, it’s not about selling thin air.
It’s about selling a vision.
And if your vision resonates with people, it means you’re onto something.
That’s when it becomes worth digging deeper and spending time building it.
And the cherry on top: you also get real early users who are ready to send you feedback as soon as the product launches.
I’ll share more about what led me to this product, and especially where I plan to take it next, in a future post.
So follow me if you’re interested 🤪
This is probably one of the biggest shifts AI is creating.
Being “good enough” used to have economic value because reaching average competence required time, training and experience.
AI is removing that barrier.
Average copy.
Average code.
Average design.
Average analysis.
All of it is becoming almost free.
Which means the value moves somewhere else.
Not necessarily toward being 10x better at manually producing the output.
But toward the things AI still struggles to commoditize:
Taste.
Judgment.
Understanding the problem.
Knowing what “great” actually looks like.
Knowing what to build in the first place.
AI raises the floor dramatically.
And when everyone can produce average work, the ability to recognize and create exceptional work becomes much more valuable.
AI makes being average at any skill available to everyone, which makes average work worthless. If you take the time to become incredibly good at what you do you won't have to worry about being replaced.
“AI is data, and data can only look backwards. Creativity looks forwards.”
I don't completely agree with this.
Human creativity doesn’t come from nowhere either.
A huge part of it is remixing past experiences, things we’ve seen, conversations we’ve had, books we’ve read, failures, emotions...
The difference is the filter.
Humans attach meaning to those experiences.
We have taste, intention, emotions, context, desires, contradictions.
That’s why I don’t think AI is “creative” in the purely artistic sense.
But I do think it can massively increase our creativity.
AI can explore thousands of combinations of past knowledge that I would never have connected myself.
Then I can apply the human filter, the taste, the intuition
Maybe AI doesn’t need to be creative.
Maybe its real value is expanding the space in which we can be creative.
I saw a post on Reddit today about AI that said, “AI is data, and data can only look backwards. Creativity looks forwards.” And I genuinely need to sit with the weight of that for a while.
Puis mon téléphone a sonné...
