@Kaui_AhSingGray @Urart3 Like, it's adding that extra layer of complexity beyond just "These are monsters, point your gun at them and shoot" and *removing* the layer of absurdity of "They're from the Evil Dimension" that makes them feel more real, thus inviting you to think of them in a different way.

@Kaui_AhSingGray @Urart3 i would say there's a difference between, say, a Doom devil and a Frieren devil. Devils in Doom is a monster from the Evil Murder Dimension. A Frieren devil is just a creature that looks like us with horns. It feels slightly more "real" compared to Doom's devils.

@Urart3 Also, while I wouldn't say the show is fascist, it's probably just trying to have a group of Cool Bad Guys To Do Cool Magic At, it just reminds some fellas of the way fascist countries would go "we are inherently superior to these monsters, they are the enemy to be wiped out"

@Urart3 I mean, yeah, that can be annoying, but from what I know of the series, making them look identical to us is intentionally trying to make viewers uncomfortable. Playing with our instinct to go "they look like us, they can't be all bad". It's cool, but also why I've not seen it.

@JunjiItoTheGrey @LookAtMyMeat1 Yes, when you go from Fucked Up Meat Monsters to Identical To Humans, it's incredibly easy to see the species who are identical to us and see a racial allegory. Even if the story is right about all demons being evil, it's uncomfortable and that's okay.

the demons in this show are basically "beasts who can speak", and evan is uncomfortable with the show having a race of intelligent beings who you should Kill On Sight. which, valid, also uncomfortable to me.
