Excited about this!
Today's my 1st day leading a revamped AM version of Washington Edition - a newsletter covering all things DC through the combined resources of @business + @BGOV.

Tom Kean, who disclosed his depression diagnosis today after being absent from the chamber since March without explanation, not answering questions from reporters. Tried to asking if he should have told his constituents earlier — and if he’s running for reelection. No response
Republicans will host a midterm convention in Dallas on Sept. 9-10, according to a person familiar with the event President Donald Trump first floated last year as a way of rallying GOP voters https://t.co/odl5koakEm
Scoop: Why planners are all scrambling for a shifting, potentially very late July 4 fireworks start time:
President Trump is scheduled to give a 45-minute speech on the National Mall, source tells @Axios, starting at 9:50pm.
But, "he could take a half hour, he could take" more, the official added.
"The timeline is subject to change right up until the start of the event."
High temp: 102F https://t.co/nUbm3ah17L
🚨 DC Mayor just said that the fireworks show on the Mall is not scheduled to begin until 11 PM on July 4th, later than previously publicized.
That late hour is on top of serious new restrictions: no coolers, bags, chairs, etc. And viewers have to go through metal detectors.
Per our new polling out today, the most popular politicians in America are…

New: Mixed reactions to Trump's decision to delay signing the housing bill after Republicans prepared for an affordability win:
Tillis: "Makes no sense"
Malliotakis: "Clinching defeat out of the jaws of victory"
Jim Banks: "The president has been transparent"
French Hill: "Fully in his prerogative"

I’ll tell you what’s un-American: putting Israel or any foreign country ahead of America.
We should be focused on Americans’ prosperity at home, not carrying water for Netanyahu’s genocidal and reckless wars.
👀 Trump bashing the housing bill he’s set to sign in a couple of hours, says it’s of “minor importance” and slams it as the “Elizabeth ‘Pocahontas’ Warren centric housing bill”
My elevated take for @BGOV re: Warren’s fingerprints on the housing package: https://t.co/TsRWoOvjPM
Karoline Leavitt: “one of the most significant pieces of housing affordability legislation in American history”
Pulte: “another great Housing Accomplishment”
Trump: “of minor importance”
It’s been happening for a long time but tonight is more confirmation: the idea of what voters find acceptable and desirable in their candidates and their policies has dramatically expanded.
So now we have National Guard, Park Police, US Marshals and fencing around the reflecting pool -- which until a couple months ago was just an everyday part of the DC scenery

“I will never run for anything leadership in the Senate ever again,” Rick Scott vowed today
But his moves this week left his colleagues with a very different impression
