It’s that time of year again - tractors all over the land will take to flailing vital food sources in the form of berries along thousands of miles of hedgerows. PLEASE, if you are a landowner or know someone who is, wait until Feb/March & leave nature’s larder for #wildlife 🙏🍒
@SimonJAsquith Stocking rate is a stupid and failing way to rejuvenate successional upland habitats
Destined to fail
You need enclosures for different outcomes
And for better grazing
And some of that would be way higher stocking density but with long recovery periods
A story to put a massive smile on your face today. 😃
There is no dog in the world who deserves this more than Mr Big.
Exactly 2 months ago on the 29th May we found him dying alone in a toilet. He was done.
Well today was the greatest day in his life (1/10) 🧵
A legend in his own lifetime. “The King of the Fells”. “Iron Man”. We’ll never see the likes of Joss Naylor MBE ever again in the #lakedistrict 😢🌈 He was a good friend I looked up to and he loved my work offered advice too 🥹🎥 My working week is done. I’ll be off to his heavenly send off in Wasdale this week: https://t.co/ljyYSbC7Hk
Like many folk we always thought he’d live forever!
A humble down to earth person born of the land that shaped him and inspired many others locally, across the UK and around the world.
Popping round to Wasdale in a day or so I’ve no doubt there’ll be tears, hugs, laughter and smiles as pals and the local community share stories and more about this incredible athlete, shepherd, father, friend and more besides.
All from an age where despite his physical disadvantages would put most athletes to shame nowadays given sponsorship, sport science and more.
Joss will be remembered like Wordsworth, Ruskin, Wainwright and beyond within the history of the most beautiful corner of England.
I’ll miss his sharp tongue, stories, honesty, humility and lovely, caring nature for all things people, places and Cumbria.

Our New Year's resolution is to continue to spread the word about the importance of peat in bogs, not bags.
We'd love to hear your New Year’s Resolutions - especially if they involve moving towards a cleaner and more sustainable future 💚
HAPPY NEW YEAR

@sheepfarmer782 As our otter numbers recovered our turkeys and ducks diminished! But we chose to live in a place full of wildlife, so we embrace our part of that ecosystem. We’ve given up on turkeys and keep Muscovy ducks who are strong and savvy. Win! Win! Enjoy your beautiful otters 🦦 🥰
In Budapest, there is a fountain that looks like an open book. At regular intervals, a sheet of water curves to one side to give the illusion of a page being turned
