@AdigunLaSondra @HISD_ELA A6: Similar to what @AdigunLaSondra said, an exploration of the differences in the choices the characters make in "Dear Martin" & "The Hate U Give" would benefit fans of the book. As would a look at the criminal justice system and how it affected the story...#YALLRead
@AdigunLaSondra @HISD_ELA @kwamealexander A5: I agree. Charlie learns early in the book that the choices we make shape our future, and that much of what happens to him shows the benefits of making the right choice. It's awesome that @kwamealexander chose that as a central theme for the book. #YALLRead
@HISD_ELA All I gotta say is look at the first poem, & "The Last Shot" poems for wordsmithing 101! @kwamealexander brings it hard...those two poems are classes all by themselves. #YALLRead
@HISD_ELA A3: I think Charlie handles the pressure of wanting-but-not-getting the Jordans well. Skating is the reason he gets in trouble at the end, not the shoes. Sure he wants them, but he doesn't do anything like steal to get them. He learned his lesson...#YALLRead
@HISD_ELA A2: As a kid who didn't always get what I wanted, anytime you want something you can't afford, it always makes us anxious and doubt ourselves. Kids feel good when they look good, and those Jordan 3's would've given him a boost of self-esteem when he needed it the most. #YALLRead
@AdigunLaSondra @HISD_ELA That spoke to me too... Chuck was able to rebound in life with the help of family, which speaks to the power we hold to help others heal. #YALLRead
@HISD_ELA A1 I'm always so impressed with @kwamealexander & his ability to switch between wordsmithing & crafting a story. So well done...#YALLRead
None other than our very own Sarah @TeachWithHonore captivating an audience with a read-aloud of @mattdelapena’s Love! Houston ELA is preparing for another awesome school year! #HISDELA
@HISD_ELA I agree. Zelie’s outward appearance reflected her growing confidence in her abilities. Can’t wait to see how this would play out visually in a movie. #YALLREAD
@HISD_ELA A1: I'm going to pipe in a little, so hello everyone.
I completely agree. From the moment I began reading, I rarely had a chance to relax. It's one of the few books that kept the pace and my interest from the first page to the last.

@marisa_hartling I like the thinking. Makes me wonder how long it’d take to get kids to take initiative and for us old people to let go and see where the day takes you, even assuming we set a direction. #HISDELA
@marisa_hartling Agree. Part of what most people think is kids not understanding the world around them is opportunity. If they don’t have a chance in class to speak about worldly happenings, they may not have a chance anywhere. Kids don’t talk to their friends about it. #HISDELA
@marisa_hartling I’d often just have kids practice talking, even outside of content. It seems sometimes class isn’t a place to share things in general. Creating a safe space to share goes a long way. #HISDELA
