@r_nd_f__ld I'm not the kind of teacher that gets wedded to Ed trends, but I find the acronym helps articulating what I do. I might wed "soft skills" in a pinch. No I find the Scitech inadequate, I passionately believe in teaching creativity as it is what will drive the future of STEM fields
@r_nd_f__ld I use heaps of science in my STEAM classes. We've done psychology, sound wave physics, light refraction, how our laser cutter works, conductivity etc. I love the cross-pollination of STEAM & feel students really thrive when it's done right but unfortunately it's not.
@eduLWDT Bullying was around before phones & will continue to be regardless of technology. I teach in schools where phones are a learning tool & in schools where they are banned. Students need to learn appropriate use of tech. Banning is denial of a social problem which needs addressing.
@levi_allison42@MaiaBassett @eduLWDT I haven't played or had students play with garageband but my husband's the school librarian and we have our VR set up in the and have had students enjoying electronauts.
I'm looking at a reverse Novel Engineering approach. Where my students improve their writing and character development skills by starting with designing and 3d printing their naratives main character. Does that count?
I have used "rosie revere engineer" and a few of their support materials, I have also used "the most magnificent thing". I love analysing these books with my mini engineers through a Building Learning Power lense. Looking at what learning habbits these characters use to succeed.
I was originally art trained and I love teaching STEAM by looking at the other STEM disciplines with a strong focus on creativity. I start units by pointing out that ppl who lead their fields & ppl who will change the world need to create new ideas therefore they need creativity
#eduLWDT Reaching out to Early childhood educators. How have you used 3d printing. I'm a STEAM coordinator in a prep to 12 environment and wondering if our littles can join the fun.
#eduLWDT A5. We have used #tinkercad in the past. I am starting to look at how I can make better use of other software once the 3d models have been created. Eg. importing them into Augmented Reality or using the printed models to create stop motion animations.
#eduLWDT Q3. Kids just love the printing process. I love that they can touch and play with maths (for example a penrose triangle). It seems to fire my students imagination differently than say clay or laser cutting.
#eduLWDT A2. We have created masks, formula one models, odd tools for around the school, a lunchbox prototype, figurines, stamps, keyrings, a Penrose triangle, a Mobius strip.
@eduLWDT A1. 3d printers have been infuriatingly slow in their up take at our school. I normally gel well with new technology I just haven't with 3d printing. So I'm excited to check others responses and get inspired.
@levi_allison42 @eduLWDT You might be interested in a project I did with my kids last year could easily be adapted to incorporate 3d printing
