My understanding (which isn't too deep, admittedly) is that Novaky was built by the Slovakians as an alternative to deporting their Jewish population and instead utilized the laborers for production of high quality goods, so high quality that the camp turned a profit.

The camp was also effectively prisoner ran because the local Jewish government (Judenrat, that's the literal name) bribed the camp commander with booze. That's why the place seems much nicer compared to most of the other internment camps.

As the current system is still being phased in that's especially true. My understanding was as a single earner still got 15 free hours from 3.
