I usually have a cheap bluetooth speaker to test how my mixes will translate in imperfect environments.
My assistants blew the previous ones I had, they started sounding distorted when played at above 60% volume.
I got a new one a few days ago and it taught me something new
Since you all loved the breakdown of music recording contracts. I decided to do a breakdown of music sync licensing contracts. If your music will be in a film, tv, or ad, then you want to consider the below.
A Thread:
@kwamemmnel@MrSoundHive It’s not hard to surmise this from all that’s happening.
The talent doesn’t want to work with the label anymore.
Counting from her first hit in 2022, do you think the label has made enough to recoup their investment?
there’s two sides of every story but when it’s your turn, invest over $100k for a 4-5yr duration in a young teenage female artiste’s career and allow that artiste tell you they’re done with the contract after two years. Since you’re an NGO.
In 2025, someone said it costs around ₦100M to break an artist and success still isn’t guaranteed, regardless of the talent.
If you invested that and all returns in NG treasury bills for 4 years, you’d make close to your original capital as profit.
Music is insanely high risk.
Earned Not Given.
An album by @jaystuntonline is now out! A&R’d by yours truly. It’s also the first time I served as an executive producer on a musical project.
@sknnymusic Exactly, I don’t know what it is honestly.
it was an album when it dropped then GKMC was called his debut when it was announced.
I get it though, Interscope signed Kendrick after Section.80 and he blew properly after. So to a lot of people, GKMC felt like a debut.

MUSIC INDUSTRY PRO TIP – Releasing music as an artist is a lot like building a startup in public.
There will never be a "perfect time" to launch.
The mix + master will likely never be "perfect".
Don't overthink it - make it sound as best as it can be and release consistently.
Iterate and make adjustments in real time.
Some of the best learning comes from taking massive action and adjusting along the way.
It may be bumpy but with action and consistency you'll look up in 12 months and be happy you started when you did.
