This is very, very good. A million times more thoughtful than anything we have seen from Burnham or Reform.
I want to see the Tories run with this. They have a diagnosis and a set of guiding principles. The policies can now start to flow very easily from them. This is the kernel of good strategic thinking…
If an election was called tomorrow they are mentally ready.
Bravo 👏👏👏
This is actually modestly bullish for Gilt investors (nothing significant on UK fiscal sustainability is going to be uniformly popular) and just the speculation over fiscal compounding has helped push the UK-US 10Y spread down to 17bp.
This is the lowest such spread for months so whilst nominal yields are at multi-decade highs, the “moron premium” has come almost 50bp off its top. If Labour’s economic leadership need clues they get a market reward for fiscal responsibility it is there in the data.
@AliKh1886 The only half decent Labour policy so far.
If he can get some drilling in the North Sea, remove red tape on employment, unfreeze the frozen tax thresholds, spend more on defence... then maybe Burnham isn't as bad as everybody thinks.
We'll bag the small step forward though.
Having 3rd party forces dictate to British citizens whether or not they are allowed to enter, or how long they are allowed to stay, on British sovereign land is a slippery slope...

This is a proper WTAF story. This country has a death wish. Stop letting in Islamists and people likely to support them. It’s really not terribly complicated.
In this case a judge gave a Hamas man 100 years of anonymity before it was challenged by the Sunday Times. Utterly retarded. The courts are a conspiracy against the nation.
Indefinite leave to remain granted under Theresa May as Home Secretary. Ye Gods.
Read it and weep
A desperately sorry tale of luxury beliefs overriding economic growth and prosperity in my home town of Hull.
The most depressing line in the whole article: "the BBC understands workers across the sites will be kept on while Ineos tries to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG) directly from the US at lower prices"
Sourcing that LNG will come at four times the carbon footprint of domestically-extracted gas. Well done everybody for an energy policy that makes us poorer, more polluting, and less resilient.👋👋

Starmer lied about his intentions, lacked a mandate for what he did, and was never scrutinised until he was elected.
Are we really about to go through the same thing again?
Even taking into account JD Vance's habit of political shit-stirring in the UK, it's not possible to convincingly deny the double-standards on display here.
I'd have more respect for David Lammy if he'd dropped the act and said: "Yeah fair enough, we really fucked this one up."
