Our Beautiful Country doesn’t need Black,White,Indian or other Race..We need a Government that will Create Jobs,keep us Safe,Protect Women and Children,Build Strong Infrastructure,Stop Appointing idiots at Top SOE positions.Look after It’s Citizens..That’s all we need.
SA’s consumer price inflation 📈 was +4.8% y/y in August from +4.7% in July. (In-line)
📦 Goods +5.6% (5.5% in July)
💼 Services +4% (unchanged)
On a m/m basis CPI rose 0.3%.
Main contributors:
🥤 Food & non-alcoholic beverages (+8% y/y & contributing 1.4% to the overall print). On a positive note, it was flat m/m.
💦 Housing & utilities (+5.5% y/y & adding 1.3%). This was largely due to a +2.4% increase in water and other services.
SA recorded a R16bn trade surplus in July with exports +4.6% m/m to R174bn.
Mineral products (coal) ⛏️ export, the largest sub-group, +2.3% m/m to R41.9bn.
Precious metals 🪙, the 2nd largest group, +2.7% m/m to R31.4bn.
Noteworthy:
• Vehicle & equipment + 61% m/m (R25.6bn)
• Vegetable products +16.9% m/m (R15.1bn)
YTD-July 2023
Export revenues +1.5% y/y to R1.2tn, with mineral products -3.4% y/y to R310bn.
Precious metals -16% y/y to R221bn.
Encouragingly, base metals (3rd largest group) +9.6% y/y to R133bn & vehicles 🚘 (4th largest) +20% y/y to R128bn.
SA's July consumer inflation fell to a lower-than-expected 4.7% vs June's 5.4% - the lowest level in over two years. 📉
On a m/m basis CPI +0.9% vs +0.2% m/m in June, as electricity rose +14.2%. 💡
🚗 Transport -2.6% y/y (fuel prices -16.8%) but
was +0.3% m/m.
🍏 Food inflation still elevated at +10% y/y, but only rose +0.2% m/m.
🍟 Processed foods +10.5% y/y, breads & cereals +13.1% and unprocessed foods +9.5%.
Total income from hotels 🏨 (current prices) +33% y/y in June to R2.5bn. In Q2, income +31.6% y/y via @StatsSA.
June hotel revenue breakdown:
- Accommodation income +33% y/y to R1bn
- Restaurants & bar sales +27% y/y to R477m
- Other +2% y/y to R1.07bn
Occupancy ✅ rates rose to 36.8% y/y in June but remains well below 44% in June 2019 pre-Covid.
