It's #WasteReductionWeek! Pollution Probe is over 50 years old, and this issue has been a top priority since our inception - we even originated the #ReduceReuseRecycle slogan! A lot has changed since then, but the mission remains the same - less waste and a pollution-free planet.

Broadening our definition of ‘recycling’ to include both mechanical AND more advanced processes is the right approach. Mechanical recycling needs to increase but will not get us to 100% circularity on its own. Advanced recycling technologies are also needed.

Agree Craig. Recycling is far more than simply mechanical. Advanced recycling will play a major role in diverting more plastics from landfills.

Although circular economy is the ultimate goal, we shouldn't diminish efforts to get an extra phase of life out of hard-to-recycle plastics as this is better than having these materials go to landfill. We need to think Sust. Mat's. Mgt. on our way to becoming truly circular.
