@Corgi_King0421@ClayTravis why do we have to try and pretend a bunch of NY NBA fans like him? We know they don’t. It doesn’t change anything or say anything. We knew this
@JGallant789@mikemacman21@J_Swish24 Yeah but does he care? He has his Cups he can play for a loser team and get ice time and PP time to stat pad. I think he’s good
@UpsetLiberal123@patrickbetdavid If the Knicks were down 2-0 and Trump showed up and they won 4 straight, yeah he'd get credit. Sports fans, above all, are superstitious
@bmciner1@cmjurek Sure but this is also a hypothetical where he has decided to stop trying with 5 years left on his contract. I don't think it'll come to that but I do think he has less leverage than you think because he has 5 years left. Det will either get a good enough offer or he'll expand
@cmjurek@bmciner1 I dont even begrudge NMC or players controlling their futures as they get closer to free agency but 5 years bugs me. I think this is kind of a unique situation and feels like a bridge I wouldn't want the "player empowerment" thing to cross, at some point it's too far like the NBA
@cmjurek@bmciner1 They’d certainly be the most likely to have that hunger to bid the most seeing as Vegas and FLA have had a lot of success and Minny has been unable to get over the hump
@bmciner1@cmjurek I think it’s in both sides interest to work it out so it will, but Yzerman can be a bit of a bitch and I’d honestly love to see him make them sweat a little. I’m all for players controlling their destiny but 5 years left + only 3 teams feels too silly to me
@bmciner1@cmjurek Maybe but if he’s this much of a head case that he’ll torpedo the rest of his career at 30 because he had to consider his 5th preferred option instead of his 3rd, do you want him if you’re Vegas or Fla and have a winning organization? I mean sheesh
@cmjurek@bmciner1 I have no idea on his actual value, I see him as a 2C on a contender so yeah probably overrated. I'm just more on the, he doesn't have the leverage to demand what he's demanding with 5 years left on his deal.
@cmjurek@bmciner1 They also negotiated a full 8 year contract and there's no out clause. Detroit isn't bypassing his NMC, he's the one saying I don't want to fulfill my contract here. Detroit would be saying okay, fair enough, we'll move you but the 3 teams you picked doesn't give us enough market
@bmciner1@cmjurek Those guys also didn't owe their team 5 years, usually the player has all the leverage because they can buy time until they're free, in this case Larkin can't just buy time because there's too much to buy.
@cmjurek@bmciner1 It's bad business but so is telling guys that your contracts here mean nothing, you can sign 8 years for security and just force your way out whenever you want. Detroit in a no win situation. Their best bet is to leverage him to expand his list a bit and make both sides happy
@bmciner1@cmjurek Sure, he can and he can give low effort and just collect his salary but he owes them 5 years and usually guys who try that have an end in sight. As much as Yzerman doesn't want this lingering, Larkin doesn't want to waste the rest of his prime in Det.
@cmjurek@bmciner1 They should 100% but also players should think twice before signing 8 year contracts with crap teams and wanting out less than halfway through. I assume it gets worked for both but the fact that he has 5 years left means he might have to work with Det on more locations - maybe
@cmjurek@bmciner1 Eichel had no no trade protection at all, wasn't eligible yet. Kicked in in 2022-23 so could be traded anywhere + almost ended up in CGY.
The issue for Larkin is the guys who can dictate which cpl teams they're going to always have their contracts close to expiring
@cmjurek@bmciner1 Heatley is def the closest comp and he *did * veto a trade to EDM after demanding a trade, whether or not his list was 2-3 teams or just "not EDM" I don't know. But obviously the onus would be on the team to fight him given the term leverage they have.
@cmjurek@bmciner1 Eichel gave no list, he had absolutely no NTC and said he almost ended up in CGY, Tkachuk had 1 year left so him signing was going to part of any trade thus he had the power.
Kessler had a NTC but only 2 years left, do you mean Patrick Roy? Lol he didn't have a NTC + 30 yrs ago
