Along w @joshliaotweets & @jhjoo9, I had the privilege to co-author "Reshaping Health Systems: What Drives Health Care and How You Can Change It". This book is a foundational resource for learning essential US health systems knowledge https://t.co/icXYJCfjvZ (25% off: WQA001AA)
After a mental health or substance-use ER visit, only 11% to 14% of Washington Medicaid patients saw a primary-care clinician for follow-up within 30 days, in study led by @uwfm's @JonStaloff & @UWDeptMedicine researchers. https://t.co/2TMY34NmD7 @JAMANetworkOpen@UWMedicine
Thanks to @uwmnewsroom for sharing our @VAResearch in @JAMANetworkOpen showing that low and intermediate proportions of primary care telehealth are comparable to in person care, but a consistent drop in quality when telehealth makes up majority of visits
Patients using telehealth for more than 50% of their primary care visits had lower rates of flu vaccination, statin adherence & depression screening compared with those seeking in-person care, in study by @JonStaloff & @uwfm researchers. https://t.co/SReZURIGis @JAMANetworkOpen
Thanks to @JAMANetworkOpen for publishing our work demonstrating viability of hybrid in-person/telehealth care models for high quality primary care. However, our findings also showed that a drop in quality when telehealth made up the majority of visits @uwmnewsroom@VAResearch
Low or intermediate use of #Telehealth in #PrimaryCare maintained comparable care quality to in-person visits, but high telehealth use was linked to decreased rates of influenza vaccination and some quality measures.

Proud of @maddywoz reflection in @JAMA_current on caring for critically ill children @seattlechildren who are potentially at end of life while navigating the complex emotions, conversations, & paradoxes of doing so during 3rd trimester of pregnancy.

Former #GrahamCenter scholar @JonStaloff studied how Secure messaging has become increasingly popular in primary care. Read more in @AnnFamMed 🔗 https://t.co/4M8EDGrYaB
This study explored the characteristics of high users of primary care secure messaging in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), finding that high users were more likely to be 75 years or older, frail, have higher degrees of complexity, living with mental health conditions, white and from higher socioeconomic neighborhoods.

These findings can help family physicians and policy makers focus outreach and resources on patient subgroups that rely heavily on secure messaging. The results can also help practice leaders anticipate which veterans’ access might be most affected by policy changes.

Billions of dollars went to #healthcenters (aka FQHCs) during the #covid19 pandemic, but little has been known about how much and to whom that funding went to until now...

FQHCs saw an influx of funds during COVID-19. In this @Health_Affairs study, @biancafrogner@meganbcole@bradwrightphd@PaulaKett, myself & others track that funding/how it varied across different FQHCs & populations, & discuss long-term implications https://t.co/w1JD5zqN6s
New paper (with a great group of co-authors at BU and UW-Seattle incl. @meganbcole@biancafrogner@PaulaKett@JonStaloff ) examines federal funding to health centers during the pandemic. https://t.co/hiyv0vXFWv
This is something we can measure, track, and improve on if we focus on addressing people’s real needs. Learn more in Fountain House’s report: https://t.co/IZmX06BZOE

The Surgeon General issued an advisory last year on the country’s “epidemic of loneliness”—What can be done to tackle this intractable public health crisis? 🧵
#GrahamCenter fellows go on to have successful research careers. In a new @MilbankFund report, former fellow @JonStaloff describes a new method that could lead to improved claims-based definitions and better tracking of primary care trends. https://t.co/fRkwIHIvBD
Telemedicine (video & phone visits) has increased dramatically in the @VeteransHealth and overall for primary care. As we determine the future of telemedicine, we must first understand how patients use a mixture of telemedicine and in person visits for primary care.
In this @JournalGIM analysis, colleagues & I identify common patterns of how Vets use a mixture of in-person & telemedicine for primary care. (Sneak peek: 45% of Vets use primary care infrequently & almost entirely by phone!) Learn more in full article: https://t.co/OvqIiKA6F1
