This is on @inaturalistnz as Rawiritoa (Kunzea amathicola), one of the eight kānuka species but I'm not 100% certain of that ID. There is lots of it around here and it's almost indistinguishable from Kunzea robusta (Rawirinui) which is also common here.
Wetlands are so important. At Greater Wellington Regional Council we’re looking at how to accelerate restoring wetlands on regional park land. On private land it’s a different question of course. Central government funds to purchase & restore wetlands would be hugely valuable.
The Hutt Estuary is a hotspot for bird observations. From the east end of Marine Parade walk past boatsheds to a small embayment, where the Te Mome Stream empties via a culvert under Waione St, the main road to Seaview and Eastbourne.
@MaxRashbrooke@nashthomas I am self employed and last year I made $25,000 before tax, which is $480 / week. I was able to live on this, although I’m not paying $600/ week rent like some people. Apparently this income puts me below the poverty line. I’m not living in poverty, but I am frugal.
Need to go out shopping for essentials? Remember, it's important to practise social distancing even in supermarkets and other essential shops. Always try to stay 2 metres apart from people around you.
Wellington and all our cities around the country should seize this opportunity to rethink our streets.
We should make sure they are fit for purpose both for physical distance in the weeks and months ahead and for the accessible, inclusive, climate-safe future we need.
@lightyouonfire A woman in Pak n Save had a 2 m tape she held out and cautioned “Two metres!” to people when needed, and bumped the tape end into people to demonstrate. Apparently this is such strange behaviour she made on UK news websites. She’s my hero. 2m in a supermarket is quite a long way.
@lightyouonfire My concern is supermarkets. People walk right up to me and my only action is to reverse. I might start yelling at them to BACK OFF! A polite question seems to bring a caustic reply.
Website "The Spinoff" has a great piece by Siouxsie Wiles on whether we should be wearing masks. Since I'm volunteering at a food bank, and getting closer than 1m to other people - I'm doing it. Check out the animation by Toby Morris and mask protocol.
