Hüber, nacido en 1964, cursó de 1983 a 1987 la Escuela de Oficiales de las Tropas Fronterizas de la RDA «Rosa Luxemburgo». Sirvió como subjefe de compañía y oficial de Estado Mayor en el Regimiento Fronterizo 33, encargado del sector de Berlín-Treptow, y además como «instructor de juventud», encargado de la formación político-ideológica de los soldados fronterizos. En el sector de Hüber, el 5 de febrero de 1989, fue asesinado por esas fuerzas el último fugitivo de la RDA, Chris Gueffroy, de 20 años.
La tarea de Hüber no consistía en apretar él mismo el gatillo, sino en inculcar entusiasmo por esa obligación a los miembros de las tropas fronterizas. Los cuatro soldados fronterizos que mataron a Gueffroy e hirieron gravemente a su compañero de fuga frustrada, Christian Gaudian, recibieron por ello la «Insignia de rendimiento de las tropas fronterizas» y una prima de 150 marcos cada uno.
Este hombre con ese pasado hizo una larga trayectoria en la policía federal alemana protegido por la izquierda y ahora llama al desacato y la revuelta de la institución armada contra gobiernos democráticos.
