Opening day aberration from Villa who, unsurprisingly looked anything other than the familiar Emery unit of the last 3 seasons. No complaints, filleted first half.

Credit to Brighton, full of energy and attacking intent meant that whether Villa gifted opportunities or Brighton shaped them they were primed to pounce.

Gomes is exactly what's needed in Villa midfield( legs and graft) as long as he wins it, gives it and sticks to that. When he carries it he gives it away far too much, so tell him now, basics and only basics.

A central defender of presence and leadership is a must.

Mamzambi can't come in quickly enough, a ball carrying midfielder who can turn midfielders and defenders and put a team on the offensive.

If Emi is going, get him gone pronto, he's helping nobody by being in the building at all. Likewise Ollie. Sell and bring a striker in this week.

There's zero point crying about outgoings other than wish them well, rebuild and rebuild quickly. We lost 5 at the start of last season with them, so let's see the context.

If shape change is needed until the newbies are up to speed, fine, but today didn't look like an Emery team, so he needs to own that, that's what pre season is for.

First thing is to compete while changes take place then Unai to find an XI that plays exactly how he wants, and he will, so patience is needed.

Change means uncertainty, so it's down to the manager to bring that back ASAP. His track record is proven over many years.
