1 Peter 1:6-7
In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
This short statement is foundational. Barriers form when we treat Jesus as only a good teacher or example instead of fully God.
John 1:1 and 14 show the Word was God and became flesh.
Colossians 2:9 says in Him all the fullness of deity dwells bodily.
Because we are one with Him in spirit (1 Cor. 6:17), His full identity becomes the source of our identity and authority.
Removing the barrier of a reduced view of Christ opens the door to deeper relationship and whole-body thriving.
God is highlighting a common barrier for Christians: living from what we see instead of what He has promised.
To live by sight and feelings means to live by (and subscribe to) the limitations of the world - potentially inhibiting the flow of the Spirit through you...
The Spirit is the key to creating the change you want to SEE...
To live by faith means living by every word God said. A full focus and trust in Him, and remembering the spiritual nature of all things (that we are far more than just the physical/senses).
Isaiah 26:3 promises perfect peace when our minds are stayed on Him. Not because everything is perfect, but because we are focused on the One who is.
2 Corinthians 4:16 reminds us not to lose heart. As children of God who are one with Him in spirit (1 Cor. 6:17), the Holy Spirit helps us trade the barrier of unbelief for expectancy.
You don’t have to manufacture the feeling—just stay connected.
Where is the Spirit inviting you to believe you will see His glory today?
Signs of maturity that aren’t produced by trying harder (in our own effort) but show up when we humbly surrender - allowing barriers of pride, fear, and performance to be revealed and cleared by the Holy Spirit.
Unwavering trust in God and obedience to Him are BOTH needed in our walk. This kind of maturity only comes from the Spirit that Christ gave us - the means by which we walk with God - not in effort but in relationship.
Galatians 5:22-23 describes the fruit that grows as we abide. James 1 calls us to be doers, not just hearers. As children of God one with Him in spirit (1 Cor. 6:17), we partner with the Spirit so repentance becomes quick, forgiveness becomes free, and TRUE holiness becomes more important than the appearance of holiness.
Seven signs of spiritual maturity:
1. You repent quickly.
2. You forgive freely.
3. You receive correction humbly.
4. You pray before you panic.
5. You obey Scripture over your feelings.
6. You care more about holiness than appearances.
7. You want Christ to be glorified more than you want to be noticed.
Christian maturity is not measured by how much you know, but by how faithfully you walk with God.
I love how God works...
A molecular biologist highlights "Laminin" to this pastor - a crucifix shaped network of proteins vital to function and structure (the structural scaffolding of almost every tissue of an organism).
Yet another confirmation/physical reality of God's truth:
Colossians 1:17
"And He Himself existed and is before all things, and in Him all things HOLD TOGETHER. [His is the controlling, cohesive force of the universe.]"
The evidence of God's impossibly complex design is EVERYWHERE. This one just happens to be absolutely mind-blowing.
This one from my friend @louiegiglio is worth your time.
A great reminder to guard against a subtle barrier all believers struggle with at one time or another: growing too familiar so that awe of God -who He is, what He's done, and how He loves us - fades from our focus.
Psalm 46:10 calls us to be still and know. Isaiah 6 shows what happens when we see Him as He is. As children of God one with Him in spirit (1 Cor. 6:17), the Holy Spirit keeps the relationship fresh instead of routine.
That restored wonder is SPIRIT led, not routine or effort based, and it clears the barrier of dullness -renewing purpose and peace.
Where is the Spirit inviting you to stand in fresh awe today? For me, it was in a simply moment with my son...one that many other days I would have been impatient to finish with. Today, I lingered. I smiled. I appreciated it, and saw God in that moment. He's in every moment...good and bad.
// n o t t o o f a m i l i a r //
I don’t want to take friendship with God for granted.
I don’t want to grow too familiar.
I want to always stand in awe of You.
@ScottRoberts Amen. Which of these seven is the Spirit highlighting for you right now? For me, He's currently working on humbly receiving correction - instead of digging my heals in and denying the change He's working to produce in me.
@justinmaderia@louiegiglio That's good! Rising to meet Him. But we also must have this same awe even when it's difficult and we're not in an ideal moment - as tends to happen in this world.
A timely reminder. God is still on the throne (Psalm 47),
I keep being reminded that our battle is a spiritual one
Ephesians 6:12 (AMP)
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places"
The real barrier many carry is despair or the idea that if outcomes don’t match our preference, God has stepped back. I like your point that often...God is working most in the "silence." Evil is not winning. God is letting evil reveal itself more clearly and make the bed of its own destruction.
Many prophets throughout history have been called to mourn for their people and nation for the very reason that they have turned away from God, despite their original founding rooted in God. This time and this nation is no different. Mourn. Ask for forgiveness for us all. Be the remnant that has always risen up from the ashes.
He wants our hearts first. Appropriate living and prayer action will follow.

This highlights something powerful: Spirit-led generosity has always advanced the Kingdom.
Many of us hit an internal barrier here—the belief that ‘if I give radically, I won’t have enough,’ or that 'if I give, I'll be disappointed with how it's used'.
Removing those barriers start with identity: we are children of God, FIRST. One with Him in spirit (1 Cor. 6:17) and led by Him in all our ways when we truly know and acknowledge Him (Proverbs 3:6).
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 shows that when we sow generously from a cheerful heart, God multiplies seed for every good work so we can keep giving.
Acts 4:32-35 shows the early church shared because they were of one heart and mind.
Proverbs 11:25 and Luke 6:38 remind us the generous are refreshed. This isn’t effort... this isn't draining...it's a way of life. It’s partnership with the Holy Spirit revealing where control or comfort is still an idol for us.
When the barriers drop - and our relationship with Christ deepens - giving becomes joy and purpose: you thrive while others are reached.
Wanna hit this real quick, because it became kind of ridiculous.
- Spiritual leaders have been teaching and leading the people of God toward generosity to build the kingdom for over 3,000 years.
- Unless you are going to say that virtually every pastor since ~350AD was "being manipulative" (you will basically not be able to name a pastor in all of history who did not preach in a building the people of God graciously and honorably sacrificed generously to build), calling people to generosity to build the church that helps reach and disciple the nations and their grandchildren is both normative and God-glorifying
- It might be "manipulative" if I was somehow personally benefitting from this. I don't get a dime extra for doing this. On the other hand, my family will *give* very, very radically, but I don't personally profit from this in any way. I'm HONORED to stand next to my people and sacrifice with them.
- The number is only weird to you because of scale. I pastor a church of over 30k people. This resource initiative would be the equivalent of my old church raising ~$375,000 over the course of 2 years.
In addition to building churches to reach 5 more communities in the DFW area, here's what this will do...
- Personally fund the translation of the Bible into the language of an unreached people group for the first time in history
- Build 2 special needs facilities to minister to families of children with special needs
- Build a Missions Center that operates a food pantry that gets meals to hundreds of thousands of people per year, a clothes' closet that gets clothes to struggling families, and teaches English as a second language to people who need it
- Put Bible teaching in prisons to reach and minister to 1.2M incarcerated people in the US
- Plant 25 new completely autonomous churches in the hardest to reach cities in North America
- Fund international missions for 25 churches in countries all over the globe
- Fund ~50 local missions partners doing things like rescuing women in our sex trafficking, pregnancy centers helping women considering abortion, etc.
- Tons more
^^^Not manipulative and not evil. Wonderful, God-glorifying, worth it.
Actually 😄
AMEN! Believers are called to give and care for each other - all a means of advancing the kingdom. The only time this becomes a "chore" is when believers give out of obligation, or resist giving out of the spirit of lack and division. Granted, too many churches misuse funds... That's another issue. And when it happens, forgive and shake the dust off your feet as you let the Spirit guide you where to take your money. This topic of giving is about where your heart and mind are: Spirit-led or led by fear, doubt, worldly priorities, and unresolved emotions?
Christ fulfilled the law. Now, through a relationship with Him, His Spirit is given to us. Working on the inside and changing us. The law is written on our hearts by Him.
Jeremiah 31:33 " I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts."
Hebrews 10:16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds"

To answer Pastor's Q: “Do you think the Church has created unnecessary tension…? Yes. Many fall into the trap of echoing the enemy's deception of shame, guilt, and condemnation toward someone who reveals the weakness/temptation they're dealing with. Especially if that someone is in church leadership. This is an unhealthy expectation of perfection...a lie of the enemy that gets us to isolate and be .
We're called to - each of us - confess our sin to each other (James 5:16), but the enemy wants us to ISOLATE and try to deal with it on our own to avoid the shame and judgment we so often encounter within the Church...all the while we're consumed by the inner (mind/heart) attacks of the enemy, we harbor secret sin, and our emotions are allowed to inhibit our full healing and relationship with God.
In this way, how are we operating any differently than the world??
PRAYER AND THERAPY DON'T HAVE TO COMPETE. 🧠
You can pray and seek wise counsel.
You can study Scripture and speak with a licensed mental health professional.
You can trust God while allowing others to support you through difficult emotional experiences.
Getting help doesn't take anything away from your faith.
Proverbs 15:22 reminds us of the value of wise counsel.
God never intended for you to navigate every difficult season in isolation.
Prayer, Scripture, community, pastoral care, and professional support can all have a place in your journey toward emotional well-being.
Sometimes wisdom looks like knowing when to ask for help. 🌿

The enemy wants us to stay in conflict and division - including within ourselves. The barrier he nurtures in many believers (especially church leaders) is the idea that if they seek wise counsel that somehow means they have weak faith. In reality, God wants us to bring to light our weaknesses, and He uses multiple means—prayer, Scripture, community, and skilled help—to bring us into wholeness. When we remove false tension, our unprocessed emotions no longer block our relationship with God. We experience the peace that guards our hearts (Phil. 4:7) and step more fully into our identity as thriving children of God.

This kind of Spirit-led action, starts with remembering who we are: children of God, one with Him in spirit (1 Cor. 6:17), called to be salt and light. Seeking the welfare of the nation (Jer. 29:7) while keeping our focus on Him (Isa. 26:3). It's true that we are in a spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:12), but it's being fought right here on this earth - spirit (evil or God - depending on your allegiance) operating through flesh and manifesting in the physical. Prayer is our first line of defense AND offense, but then we're called to step into Godly action, directed by Him. The result of being engaged in worldly affairs is not political anxiety - or hate - but clearer purpose and the ability to influence from a place of rest in Christ.
