Why Buffett and Dimon Are Wrong
Warren Buffett and Jamie Dimon have dismissed Bitcoin for over a decade. In that time, Bitcoin has gone from $509 to $95,000 — a 186× gain (+18,564%), compounding at ~59% annually. Their companies haven’t come close.
But this isn’t just about price. It’s about frameworks.
Buffett missed Google, Amazon, and Apple for years — because he couldn’t fit them into his model. Dimon hasn’t taken the time to deeply study Bitcoin. Larry Fink did. He spent 100 hours on it. And once he understood it, he changed his mind — because Bitcoin isn’t just an asset. It’s a technology. And tech people get this instantly.
Now — let’s be clear. Buffett and Dimon are legends. Their long-term track records are extraordinary. When they speak, people should listen. But on Bitcoin, they’ve been consistently, structurally wrong. And the data proves it.
Bitcoin is not part of the old system.
It’s the technology replacing it.
⸻
“It Has No Intrinsic Value”
Buffett:
“It’s a mirage.” (CNBC, Mar 2014)
“Rat poison squared.” (Berkshire Meeting, May 2018)
Dimon:
“A pet rock.” (Congress, Dec 2023)
They’re applying 20th-century logic to a 21st-century phenomenon — where value is no longer about cash flow, but about consensus and utility. A bottle of water is worthless in Manhattan and priceless in the desert. Bitcoin is valuable because it solves trust — not with banks or regulators, but with math and code.
Bitcoin doesn’t promise yield. It promises rules.
And that’s what gives it power.
⸻
“It’s Just Speculation”
Buffett:
“You’re just hoping the next guy pays more.” (CNBC, Mar 2014)
Dimon:
“Worse than tulip bulbs.” (CNBC, Sep 2017)
Speculation is how every major technology begins. Railroads. Electricity. The internet. Bitcoin has since crossed the line from speculation to infrastructure. Its rules are fixed. Its issuance is declining. Its adoption is compounding.
This is no longer a trade. It’s a protocol shift.
⸻
“Used by Criminals”
Dimon:
“Used by sex traffickers and money launderers.” (Congress, Jan 2025)
But less than 0.24% of crypto volume is illicit — compared to 2–5% in traditional finance. Bitcoin’s ledger is public, transparent, and permanent. The worst place to hide criminal activity.
Criminals use cash.
Bitcoin exposes them.
⸻
“It Can Be Replicated”
Buffett:
“You can create a whole bunch of different things.” (CNBC, Mar 2014)
Dimon:
“It could be replicated over and over.” (Davos, Jan 2015)
Yes, you can copy code. But you can’t copy trust.
Bitcoin’s moat is its immaculate launch, 15-year uptime, deep liquidity, and unmatched decentralization.
You can fork the code.
You can’t fork the community, brand, or Lindy effect.
⸻
They Missed the Tech Shift
Bitcoin is not a company. It’s not a stock.
It’s the TCP/IP of money — an open, neutral, global settlement layer.
Dimon once said:
“Blockchain is real. We have dozens of patents.” (CNBC, Jan 2018)
That’s confusion masquerading as insight. Blockchains are inefficient databases. They only make sense when you don’t trust the operator. JPMorgan doesn’t need a blockchain. It needs a database.
Bitcoin doesn’t run on trust. That’s the whole point.
⸻
This Isn’t the End of the Old. It’s the Beginning of the New.
Bitcoin is Ledger 4.0.
Stateless money. Final settlement.
A monetary network with no off switch.
•Ledger 1.0 — Memory
•Ledger 2.0 — Writing
•Ledger 3.0 — Banking
•Ledger 4.0 — Bitcoin
Buffett and Dimon mastered the old system. They built empires on trust-based finance.
But Bitcoin is trustless by design — and that’s the paradigm shift they missed.
⸻
Bitcoin Is Not an Investment. It’s an Upgrade.
This isn’t about outperforming the S&P.
It’s about outgrowing the system that created it.
Bitcoin is still early.
Still underestimated.
Still winning — with or without their permission.
@Apple’s new game Quartiles #Fail, I love the game but it’s a bit peculiar that on #Juneteenth you can spell the name of the holiday with the tiles but the app rejects it as a valid word. #Fix_It
I agree with my friend Russell! We are loosing something in our remote-self. As companies we might even be loosing our overall edge; if we don’t connect with people, sympathize, empathize and touch souls.
