Happy International Women’s Day! ⭐
From Corporal to Barrister.
I submitted my application to join the @BritishArmy when I was just 15 years and 9 months old, starting training at only 16 in a male dominated environment.
After 11 years and 8 months in the army, I went on to pursue a legal career and I’m proud to say I have successfully obtained pupillage.
Never stop believing in yourself. You can, and you will.

A career in law can be extremely stressful.
So, when things feel overwhelming… move.
Go for a run before/after court.
Lift some weights.
Step outside and breathe.
The legal profession is intense. Deadlines, feedback, and courtroom pressure can weigh you down.
Fitness gives you a space to reset, to focus on yourself, and to reclaim control.
Some days, the workout isn’t about building muscle…
It’s about defending your mind.

Barristers are quietly destroying their health… ⚖️
And most don’t realise it until the pain starts.
Cause:
Hours sitting at a desk.
Hours sitting in court.
Almost no movement all day.
That mix of sitting + stress + zero mobility is slowly wrecking your hips, lower back, and posture.
So after a long day in chambers or court, every lawyer should do these 3 quick mobility drills.
1. Back extension
Open tight hips and relieve lower back tension from hours of sitting.
2. Kneeling back extension
Open up the spine
3. Kneeling Pulses
Mobilise the hips, groin, and back one simple movement.
Do these for 3–5 minutes after work and your body will feel the difference.

⭐ Step outside your comfort zone, it might shape your legal career! ⭐
One of the most valuable things you can do as a law student or aspiring barrister is step out of your comfort zone and start networking.
Something as simple as reaching out to people on LinkedIn led me to incredible shadowing opportunities. It also introduced me to fantastic mentors, whose guidance has been invaluable.
It can feel daunting to send that message, attend that event, or introduce yourself but those small steps can open doors you never expected.
Your future at the Bar won’t just be shaped by what you know, but also who you meet and the courage you have to reach out.

Lawyers don’t burn out because of work.
They burn out because they never recover.
Long hours aren’t the real problem. It’s what happens around them:
• No exercise — your body stays in constant stress mode.
• Poor stress management — pressure just keeps building.
• No recovery — no real switch-off, day after day.
Work is demanding, but burnout usually comes from neglecting the basics that keep you functioning.
Train. Manage stress. Recover.
Your career depends on it.

I had a wonderful time at the Association of Military Court Advocates dinner this evening. It was great to finally meet in person many of the people I had previously spoken with online, as well as connect with others for the first time.
Everyone was incredibly welcoming, and the food was amazing. It was a fantastic evening and a great opportunity to make so many new connections.
Looking forward to staying in touch with everyone I met!
Barristers are destroying their health without realising it.
Long hours preparing cases.
Sitting most of the day.
Constant pressure and stress.
Over time, that combination takes a toll on both your body and your mind.
Here are 3 simple exercises you can do daily to counter it:
Bodyweight squats – get the blood flowing after long periods sitting.
Press-ups – strengthen your upper body and improve posture.
Core exercises – A strong core supports both your body and your focus.
You don’t need a full gym session. Just a few minutes of movement can make a huge difference.

@Joanna__Hardy Regrettably I’ve seen the adjournment of far more than two rape trials this year - and I’m sure there are many more to come.
Lammy’s proposed Bill shows how out of touch he is with the CJS.

This International Women’s Day, we are delighted to share an interview we conducted last year with General Dame Sharon Nesmith, Vice Chief of Defence Staff, in which she discusses her groundbreaking career with host, Harry Bucknall. Commissioned into the Royal Corps of Signals in 1992, Dame Sharon was the first woman to command a brigade, and the first to command a divisional level formation. She became Deputy Chief of the General Staff in 2022 and was appointed Vice Chief of the Defence Staff in 2024.
