I am utterly heartbroken by what humanity has come to as I learn of the death of Eugene Mutuku, a final-year KMTC Matuu student who had just begun his clinical attachment in Kasarani.
Reports indicate that Eugene sustained fatal injuries following an incident involving a matatu belonging to Nicco Movers SACCO, registration number KDV 713J. He was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
As we await the outcome of investigations, one thing is clear: no disagreement over fare, conduct, or any other issue can justify putting a passenger's life at risk.
We understand the challenges faced by those in the transport business. However, if there was any reason to remove or eject a passenger from a vehicle, it should never be done while the vehicle is in motion. Human life must always come before any dispute.
I call upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) @DCI_Kenya and all relevant law enforcement agencies to move swiftly, thoroughly investigate this matter, secure all available evidence, record witness statements, and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.
My thoughts and prayers are with Eugene's family, friends, fellow students, and all those mourning this painful loss.
Paul Njuguna, a retired technical manager at the Agricultural Development Corporation, invested Ksh 16 million in 2019 to set up Elgon Pine, a refined oil and animal feed plant in Eldoret. At its peak, the plant processed 90 tonnes of canola, sunflower, and soya annually, with capacity for 300 tonnes. Njuguna contracted about 100 farmers who supplied raw materials, while he also farmed 10 acres himself.
The business also produced poultry feeds and soap from crop by-products.
The venture collapsed after Kenya Power slapped him with a Ksh 400,000 bill in August 2021, compared to his usual monthly bill of about Ksh 30,000. Njuguna disputed it as an error and filed a complaint, but Kenya Power claimed underbilling and refused to adjust. When he failed to pay, Kenya Power disconnected electricity to both his plant and home. Though EPRA ruled in his favour and ordered reconnection, the power was never restored, forcing him to shut down operations.
The shutdown affected the entire value chain - contracted farmers, suppliers, and employees - all of whom lost income. Njuguna now questions whether the disconnection was deliberate sabotage and why Kenya does little to protect small industrial ventures. His case has raised concerns about how utility billing errors and slow dispute resolution can destroy promising local businesses and the livelihoods tied to them.
The young people of this country are the ones that will save this country. Once we return to the values of meritocracy in public service, such talent will not go to waste.
At least 7 people are dead and several others injured after the popular Nairobi matatu “Delat” (Nganya) overturned and rolled multiple times along Enterprise Road in Industrial Area. The driver was speeding and doing stunts when he lost control.

In Kruger National Park, South Africa, veteran ranger Sipho Nkosi suffered a heart attack while on solo patrol. His vehicle was found empty, and search teams began looking for him.
What the park’s remote trail cameras revealed broke the hearts of everyone who saw the footage.
An old bull elephant — known to rangers as “Mnumzane” (Zulu for “Sir”) — had found Sipho’s body. For three full days and nights, the elephant refused to leave. He stood guard, gently touching the ranger with his trunk, chasing away hyenas and jackals that came too close, and even covering parts of the body with branches and leaves.
On the third night, the elephant was still there — visibly grieving, swaying slowly beside his fallen friend. Only when the full recovery team arrived with vehicles did Mnumzane finally step back, watching solemnly as they carried Sipho away.
Park officials later confirmed that Sipho had rescued this same elephant as a calf years earlier after poachers killed his mother. The elephant had never forgotten.
One colleague who viewed the footage whispered:
“He didn’t come to say goodbye. He came to make sure no one disrespected his brother.”
Mnumzane still visits the exact spot regularly. Rangers now leave fresh water and fruit there in honor of both.
This beautiful KMTC girl named Maya says:
“Parents, if only you knew the kind of things your pretty daughters are doing in school, you’d hide somewhere and feel sorry for yourselves!
These kids are not dating men your age because they love them — it’s because life is hard. A parent gives you just 1,000 shillings a month!
You end up going for sleepovers because you don’t even have supper at home. After that, you don’t have soap to bathe. The parent doesn’t pay rent, and sometimes they can forget about you for a whole month!
I remember my friend — her parent drives to work every day, eats well, but left her alone for two whole months. When the parent finally calls, they only ask about the curriculum!
At that point you start wondering… are these people giving birth to animals or to children?”
It’s either my uncle Waruthu is heavily bewitched… or the man is the luckiest dropout kikuyu in the history of Kenya.
This man dropped out in Class 6. No degree. No biashara. No master plan. Just inherited land and some anointed timing.
He starts in Kingeero with a plot left by his father.
Then boom Western Bypass construction comes slicing through it, then KeNHA appears and tells him,
“Waruthu, kindly move, but first collect your 16 million.”
Now a serious man would sit down, call a fundi, maybe an architect, maybe even think of rentals, biashara, mabati ya tenants, something sensible.
Not Waruthu.
Waruthu buys land in Gitaru for 4 million, puts up a 3-bedroom house, then takes the rest of the money and launches a one-man campaign of alcohol, women and complete financial vandalism.
The man did not spend money. He attacked it.
Two years later, before the dust even settles, KeNHA returns again.
This time for the Gitaru-Kikuyu interchange.
I’m not joking.
Same man. Same story. Same government. Another cheque.
19 million.
At this point you stop calling it luck. This is now a calling.
He moves to Manguo near Limuru town, buys about three-quarter acre, builds again for around 4 million, then does exactly what he had done before.
Not almost. Not roughly. Exactly.
House first, then the balance is taken hostage by bars, women and enjoyment until nothing remains except memories and hangovers.
Any other human being would learn.
Waruthu?
Waruthu behaves like a man who thinks compensation is a monthly salary.
Then last November Ruto launches the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Road project.
Now tell me why this man’s land is again sitting next to the highway like it had been booked in advance.
Again the government comes.
Again they acquire.
Again Waruthu is paid.
This time 25 million.
You people, there are men who hustle for 20 years and never smell 5 million.
This fool has made a full career out of being removed by road projects.
He doesn’t farm.
He doesn’t build wealth.
He doesn’t invest.
He just keeps positioning himself where tarmac will eventually develop feelings.
The last report we got was that he had moved to Ponda Mali in Nakuru.
Either there’s a powerful mganga somewhere blessing his land papers… or God has a very twisted sense of humour when it comes to my uncle.
The man is turning Kenyan infrastructure into his personal ATM.
Respect. 😂
James Mugoya Isabirye is a Ugandan Tycoon Who Built Times Tower, NSSF Building, Kabarak University & Moi High School-Kabarak. He also constructed Mombasa road and had a site at machakos junction. James Mugoya is an engineer and a billionaire businessman.
He is the founder and owner of the famous Mugoya Construction & Engineering Limited, behind the construction of some of the most iconic projects in Kenya.
Mugoya was one of the most politically-connected contractors in Kenya and bagged several development projects during the reign of late Mzee moi. The iconic Times Towers and the NSSF Embakasi housing projects are some of the notable projects undertaken by the company.
Mugoya was born in 1950 in Eastern Uganda. He attended Uganda’s Bulyansime Primary before joining Iganga Boys. He then proceeded to King’s College Budo before later joining the University of Nairobi where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil engineering.
He graduated on October 26, 1971 at a ceremony witnessed by President Jomo Kenyatta. He was registered as Abiam JM Isabirye in a class that had 46 students. During his time at UoN, Mugoya is said to have forged a great friendship with one of Mzee Moi’s sons.
Immediately after graduation, he founded Mugoya Construction & Engineering Limited and almost immediately, he landed the deals to build the NSSF building and Hazina Estate. In 1992, Mugoya landed a tender to construct the 40-storey Times Tower building which was the tallest at the time.
The project was financed by the Central bank of Kenya (CBK) and the state. He also built Moi High School, Kabarak, Kabarak University and the Kisumu Provincial Headquarters.
In 1995, NSSF awarded Mugoya a contract to construct 265 houses in Karen, together with an administration block, a club house and a kindergarten. However, the project failed to start due to pending approvals from Nairobi City Council.
Mugoya was paid Ksh342 million in 2012 as an out-of-court settlement for the very project after he had initially claimed Ksh633 million. He wanted to buy a small town in Eastern Uganda called Busembatya.
He wanted to develop it into a city but Museveni refused. Mugoya was once arrested and charged in Nairobi for defrauding kcb hundreds of millions. Those who indulge in kazi ya mjengo say No construction company pays fundis better like Mugoya.
