Maybe I’ve missed it, but is there a curious journalist out there that’s figured out what actually went on behind the scenes with Olivia Rodrigo “giving” songwriting credit to Taylor Swift, Hayley Williams, & Josh Farro? There’s a story there (she didn’t just “give” them credit)
The Other Nashville Society (TONS), an org dedicated to connecting musicians, has teamed up with @AppleMusic as playlist curators to highlight the artists of all genres of Music City. Check their pop playlist below 👇https://t.co/48tPVffgjo
@zoecello@MusicREDEF In addition to your mechanical royalty (through the lovely HFA 🙄) & your streaming “sales” (through your distributor), Spotify pays a writer & publishing performance royalty (through your PRO). That’s the whole pie per stream. Ps. Good on you for controlling the whole pie
@zoecello@MusicREDEF Honest question. Not trying to be an ass. But, do you think 200k streams is a lot? Sometimes I think we’ve trained ourselves to see streaming numbers and subconsciously think downloads. Also, why not include your publishing royalties on these streams for the full $ picture?
I think I can speak for all of the co-founders of @OtherNashville when I say we slept long and hard this weekend, but reading this @MusicWeek piece summing up what we pulled off last week with our partners @AWAL reminds us it’s worth it.
This @MusicWeek piece by @msutherlanduk sums up our UK Exchange week perfectly, and points to the opportunity that exists for London & Nashville working closer together. Thx to our partners @AWAL for helping us make it happen!https://t.co/9QmC1FTbUh
@PaulKuharskyNFL If you wanna know the difference between the “good” and the “great” that @CoachVrabel50 talks about, this is it. It’s the little things.
A surprising thing to me about this @taylorswift13 / @scooterbraun / @scottborchetta “conversation” that’s happening, is how little some very major artists seem to understand about basic music biz stuff. Ironically, it illustrates that artists *need* smart (trustworthy) biz peeps
Random thought that puts perspective on the inevitable viability of today’s streaming platforms... @itunes came from nowhere & revolutionized the music business and shriveled into almost nothing... all within 19 years. What will the music landscape look like in another 19 years?
Wow. How many rules can one show break. @The_OA Part II on @netflix is the bravest piece of art I’ve seen in awhile. That ending! Well done, @britmarling and @z_al. Keep being brave.
@cheriehu42 IMHO, the act of physically pressing play will eventually be viewed as “outdated.” We’re moving to voice-activated, everywhere and everything. So, not a device, but an action.
@jlandpartners does it again. This might be one of the best ads I’ve ever seen. Authentic emotion, unique creative idea, great hook at the end, simple and memorable marketing message. Well done.
@tnnaterau@jaysonst@Ken_Rosenthal That... and it’s obvious complete and utter BS meant only for clickbait and clickbait alone. But other than that, it’s kick ass journalism circa 2018! Yeesh
