There are pros like Zach Johnson and Phil who hit wedges (20-90yds) totally based on feel. There are pros that hit wedges with some type of clock system like Bryson. You have to try both to see which you like better. I like the clock system but only as a soft guideline. A mix of the two has been the best for me. I know where i usually take it back and thru for say 60 yards but if I need to hit it 64 yards or a higher traj 60, get to my 60 yard backswing and give it a little extra in the downswing or if I need 55, you can grip down on it a bit or open up the clubface at set up. (Haha sounds easier than it is, even for pros) The most important thing is that you should try both out! In golf everything is very personal and there’s lots of different ways to do it. Imo, the best way to get to “average” is with the clock system which I would recommend to every amateur. But the best wedge players in the world are more feel guys I think. (Zach, Phil, Tiger) Most ams don’t have the time and technique to dial in their wedges like the pros which is why I recommend the clock system.
