Rare in my garden - Hummingbird Clearwing Moth nectaring on the Phlox Jeana. This summer I planted native larval host plants in an attempt attract more of these elusive insects: Deirvilla (Bush Honeysuckle) and Lonicera sempervirens (Coral Honeysuckle).

Since the fully grown caterpillars drop down to the soil and spin a loose cocoon in the leaf litter to pupate its helpful to not be “too tidy” in the garden (here in suburbia leaf blowers are ubiquitous :-)
