Employment, Civil Rights, and Fair Housing Attorney with XAVIER LAW; (401) 227-7927; [email protected]
Founding Board Member for the RI Center for Justice
Proud to share I've been recognized by Best Lawyers as One to Watch in the following areas of law:
1. Labor and Employment Law - Employee
2. Civil Rights Law
3. Litigation - Labor and Employment
I am very excited to share that I will be joining the amazing Kobi Dennis and DJ Rukiz tomorrow to discuss my work as an employment and civil rights attorney on their radio show, “People You Need to Know,” on The Juice FM radio at 11am! It will be my first live radio show :)
When legal systems advance equity, protect rights, and dismantle systemic barriers, they do more than deliver justice—they improve the health and well-being of entire communities.
I recently had the privilege to speak on a panel entitled, "Public Health in the Current Climate" sponsored by the Greater Providence Chapter of Brothers in Public Health.
I explored the intersection of legal justice and public health and the reality that legal justice is not separate from public health; instead, it is foundational to it.
I am excited to share that I have started my own law firm, XAVIER LAW. We specialize in Employment Law, Civil Rights Law, and Fair Housing Law (i.e. discrimination and retaliation in housing). Check out our website!

Honored to have been recognized as a Best Lawyer: One to Watch® for Labor and Employment Law and Civil Rights Law. This recognition spotlights rising legal talent demonstrating excellence in private practice. Only about 2% of early-career attorneys in the U.S. receive this honor.
The most fulfilling case I have ever handled has settled for $550,000.
My client, Mack Blackie, was falsely arrested twice, criminally charged, incarcerated for 31 days, and prosecuted for crimes he did not commit, including a felony.

Special thanks to CV Executive Director, Lamont Gordon, and CV Dir. of Programs, Susan Anderson, for getting this program up and running! If you or someone you know might be interested in participating as a student-mentee please don’t hesitate to contact me or Lamont Gordon!
This year we have four student-mentees and our mentors include Federal Judge John McConnell, Federal Judge Melissa DuBose, Attorney Marc DeSisto, and myself.
Excited to share that this year I teamed up with the amazing nonprofit, @collegevisions, ("CV") to launch a mentorship program. College Visions helps low-income and first generation high school and college students enroll in and graduate from college.
Congratulations to Attorneys Richard Sinapi, Danilo Borgas, and Joshua Xavier on receiving the Professional Excellence in the Law Award from @RIMonthly for Labor and Employment Law!
With judgment as to liability being entered, the case proceeds to trial to determine what amount my client will be awarded in damages.
May Justice be done.
Excited to share that the Court found my client's rights under the Fair Housing Act were violated. My client requested a reasonable accommodation from her landlord to accommodate her disability, which the landlord denied.
The landlord evicted her and her family because of the reasonable accommodation my client needed, resulting in my client and her family becoming homeless. My client was just 12 years old at the time of the eviction.
The Rhode Island Whistleblowers’ Protection Act extends protection to immigrants. The law prohibits employers from reporting or threatening to report an employee’s immigration status to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) because the employee reported a violation of law.
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day everyone. I fully intend on speaking up more in 2025.

This case shows that the harm caused by injustice is exacerbated significantly when the victims of the injustice are indigent. My client was forced to remain incarcerated for an extended period of time simply because he could not afford to make bail.
