Parker Washington caught two touchdowns in London today, including the one that put the Jacksonville Jaguars in front of the Philadelphia Eagles with 3:26 left.
He was the 185th pick in the draft.
And he is not the most interesting person in his family.
Here is him first.
He was born in Starkville, Mississippi, and grew up in Sugar Land, Texas, where he went to Fort Bend Travis High School and caught 160 passes for 2,800 yards and 36 touchdowns.
He went to Penn State and started all nine games as a true freshman, which almost nobody does at receiver. He was a Freshman All-American.
In three seasons there he caught 146 passes for 1,920 yards. He is 5 foot 10.
Then the 2023 draft came and went for five and a half rounds without his name in it. Jacksonville finally took him 185th overall.
As a rookie he caught 16 passes.
In 2024 he returned a punt 96 yards for a touchdown.
Last season he caught 58 for 847 yards and five touchdowns, and returned two more punts for scores. He has three punt return touchdowns in his career.
Today Trevor Lawrence hit him for 51 yards in the first quarter, and then for 27 more with 3:26 to go.
Philadelphia answered with a 48 yard field goal with 12 seconds left to go ahead by one. Then Jacksonville kicked a field goal of their own to win it.
Jacksonville 19, Philadelphia 17. The Jaguars are 4 and 1.
Now here is his sister.
Ashton Washington is the first full time female scout in the history of the Chicago Bears. They hired her in 2021. She is now their player personnel coordinator.
She started out working for the Illinois football program under Lovie Smith.
And when she was in college, somebody told her to pick a more realistic career path for a woman of color.
Here is what she says about that.
"I've never let them steer me."
And here is what she says about the job now.
"That's just passing the torch and bringing in more seats and more chairs for women, for Black women."
And here is the one that explains the whole family.
"You're going to hear more no's than yes's, and every time you hear no keep going at it."
Their father is a coach. Their grandmother taught school in Mississippi and raised them on stories about the Civil Rights Movement.
Here is Ashton on her.
"What keeps me centered would be my grandma, she's the main one that keeps me deeply rooted."
Their cousin Joshua Dobbs has played quarterback in the National Football League. Another cousin, Tyler Tolbert, plays in the Kansas City Royals organization.
So a sixth round receiver caught two touchdowns in London today, and his team won by two.
And his sister is the one who decides which kids ever get the chance to.
