Just started reading ‘Entangled Life’ by Merlin Sheldrake. There’s predatory fungi that hunt / eat nematode worms when they don’t have enough plant decay to consume. Say what!!! My mind just exploded a little.
Beautiful images, captivating words. @ShaneGrossPhoto The more you learn about this wonder plant, the more your heart grows for it.

Lunularia cruciata https://t.co/1m5Aua22fU Very cool images of the uncommon sporophytes produced by the liverwort Lunularia cruciata.
Ep 341 is here & its about moonworts!
🌿😎
Explore the mysterious world of moonworts (Ophioglossaceae) with botanist Steve Popovich. We still have a lot to learn about these strange ferns but they are teaching us about evolution, ecology, & soil health.

Started watching ‘One Strange Rock’ by @NatGeo last night and can’t count how many ‘wows’ I let out!!! I had never heard of the wonderful photosynthetic microalgae called #diatom before. What a crazy wonderful life and death cycle. Earth. You forever blow my mind. 🌏
Life just got a little more exciting. 🤗
After observing a tree for 2 hours I realised things were getting serious... where does time go...
Thanks for sending this beautiful book through so quickly @SummerfieldBook Love the bookmark too!
#snowdrops have medicinal qualities & magically split underground while laying dominant to aid their survival rate. They are also endangered and protected under CITES. Every time I learn something fascinating about a plant, the risk of their future also becomes very apparent.
And again!!! Same place and tree ... some mushrooms create their own thermals to release theit spores. In this case the spores are trapped in the guttation droplet acting like a tornado.
These #rhizomorphs spread very successfully. They cling onto the tree roots and under the bark to soak up all that nutrients. Their fruiting bodies with the cute little white collar will pop in Autumn. #Armillaria mellea, a plant #pathogen that makes some pretty nifty patterns.
Balancing of seasons. Smelling of coconut and ready to thrive! Handy plant for wine, layering on top of the vegetable patch to keep the pigeons at bay and sweeping the old chimney!

Frozen solid! Was curious how jelly can survive these temperatures. They have a protective gel surrounding their fruiting bodies (hyphae cells) making them super tolerant to harsh weather. They freeze, become dehydrated, once defrosted they can rehydrate and maintain their form.
