Usakos mayor, Irene Simeon-Kurtz, has launched a youth employment intervention programme that will assist the youth of the town with funding for various vocational training programmes.
Simeon-Kurtz maintains that the training programme is a multi-sectoral action plan that is directed at addressing the chronic youth educational and unemployment challenges faced in the town.
“Of the few young people entering the labour market each year, more than 70% remain outside of employment, education, and training. The programme aims to address these shortcomings,” said the mayor.
During a meeting in Hakaseb, the unemployed youth of the town were informed of various institutions in the region offering TVET and encouraged to enrol in studies.
The youth, together with the mayor, also embarked on an educational visit to NIMT in Arandis.
“We take them to the institution, and they enrol themselves; we, on the other hand, together with the vocational institutions, source funding to help these students set up a foundation for future success in the labour market,” she concluded.
