Cut down for #4plantscup has occurred. Ran 9 weeks.
I hung it all in a second tent with a similar positive pressure as the grow tent. Started at 50%RH, spiked to 65 quickly.
Not sure about yield. I did almost nothing for the last 8 weeks.
Will update further as it progresses.
Continued progress with little work.
One thing I am seeing for the first time IME, which I have seen from others using LEDs, is a little light bleaching on two tops. Guess I was a bit slow raising the light.
The final few weeks should show if this Amazon LED light is any good.
Soil has arrived, with a couple of plants ready for transplant!
As you can see, clover is just poking out in 3 of 4. Maybe the 4th didn't get sown.
These are 15 gal cloth pots. Soil was already used for moms at a PPL that I consulted on. It is my mix, and should be ready.
Day 29.
I have done, well, almost nothing since triggering flower (anthesis).
Gravity fed Blumats lead to minimal labour. I haven't even defoliated.
Easy peasy.
A little colour showing up now. Should be a solid harvest despite the rocky start.
#4PlantsCup#growyourown
Flip day.
They are not fully recovered, as there is still a bit of yellow, but they are now too tall to wait.
Also, the cheap light makes it hard to get an accurate looking pic.
No big deal, though. Time to flower.
Let's see how they turn out!
Recovery has gone well. There is still a little residual yellow, but the plants are growing vigorously and I am prepping for the photoperiod switch to induce flowering.
Blumats are installed, which is great. Living soil likes constant moisture, and I don't have to hand water!
Took off lower growth and defoliated to expose potential bud sites a couple of days ago. Will add a trellis for support, and flip in a week or so.
I am a little concerned about height, but it should be manageable under the circumstances.
So, in my last update a few weeks ago I was battling some nutrient issues, as seen in this pic.
After doing some tests, it became clear that soil PH was/is the problem.
So, a plan was hatched to do two things, fix the soil issue, and solve problems around my travel schedule.
Top dress and citric acid were started right away, and Epsom salts were continued to be applied.
It takes time for recovery, but they started looking a bit better pretty quickly.
I will get in there this weekend to add the Blumats and do some defoliation.
Updates to come!
When it comes to being away, I decided to just set up an auto-watering system.
Blumat systems are gravity fed, watering based on the soil moisture around a ceramic sensor.
This will not only solve the problem of travel, but also help fix the soil issue with constant moisture.
Was out of town for over a week, which will be an ongoing challenge throughout this grow.
Luckily, @ExudetteRootly was home, and did some analysis and watering.
She is amazing with plants. her expertise is invaluable to all of our projects.
I will post more details later.
@rachelcolic Safe range for soil 6-6.7.
The water PH doesn't matter unless it is pretty high EC (PPM/TDS), meaning it has added nutes.
When soil is properly built, healthy, and thriving it should buffer PH on its own.
This is why checking soil PH is so key, as an indicator of the above.
Root cause analysis round 1.
What could cause this deficiency?
1-Soil PH
2-Water issues
3-Lack of Ca/Mg
4-Lack of life in soil
5-Under watering
6-Some kind of uptake/turgor/transpiration issue
Ca is crazy abundant in my soils, and the PNW in general. Should be enough Mg, too.
We have our first issue!
I watered thoroughly two days ago, but only glanced at them yesterday. When I checked this morning, I saw an obvious Mg deficiency!
It shows as a chevron/fishbone pattern of interveinal chlorosis (yellowing).
I will treat, then look for the root cause.
