Gender equality implies that the interests, needs and priorities of both women and men are taken into consideration in the planning, decision-making, performing and Improving gender equality has a positive impact on many levels, both for individuals and the society at large.
Central to gender mainstreaming is sex-disaggregated statistics and gender equality analyses.
In a nutshell, gender equality refers to the equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities of women and men,and girls and boys.
Gender mainstreaming involves ensuring that a gender perspective is included in all activities in an organisation, such as policy development, research, advocacy, legislation, resource allocation, planning, implementation and monitoring.
The bottom-up approach will go a long way in enhancing nation-building, gender equality and a sustainable democratic society.
Additionally, gender mainstreaming is a strategy that can be used for promoting gender equality in societies, organisations or groups.
From the formative years, boys should be enlightened and taught healthy gender perspectives, equality and norms. This will help in curtailing patriarchal dominance in the society and further enhance Nation-building.
It is in the home that we can instill gender values, empathy, respect, equal rights, opportunities and privileges. This, will form an inherent and innate respect for the female gender from their male counterparts.

The male gender should be taught from childhood that their female counterparts do not have unequal Rights with them nor should be relegated to the background. The bottom-up approach will foster gender mainstreaming effectively.
I strongly recommend that the bottom-up approach should be employed as a mechanism to curb if not wholly curtail incessant gender inequalities and abuse of women in all spheres.
To combat gender inequalities, we must start at the grassroot level. The Family is the basic unit of the society, the home forms a child– both male and female.
Conspicuously,under-representation of women and the low visibility of women’s perspectives is prevalent in Nigeria and Africa at large, the fact that women often have different priorities, needs and interests than men is often not apparent
Gender inequality is a bane of Nation-building and Democracy. Therefore, It is essential for us to look at and understand gender differences in power within formal decision-making structures such as governments, community councils, and policy-making institutions.
Oftentimes, women that try to be assertive, bold or meritorious for sensitive positions are incessantly maligned, ostracized, victimized and discriminated by the patriarchal male folks.

In as much as the world is evolving and globalization is increasing on a daily basis, some male folks still hold on to patriarchy that has been inherently built in from childhood.
This spectrum of thought, holds that women should be passive, subservient, and subjugated.
Democracy is the government of the people, for the people and by the people. Each senator represents the various constituencies in Nigeria and should be given equal rights, fair hearing and privileges.
It is germane to note that leadership entails respect, dignity, fair hearing and equality rather than intimidation, malignment and discrimination. Silencing voices in the Red chamber undermines the very essence of democracy.
