BMW SA PLANS TO EXPORT TO THE USA
BMW South Africa plans to export its new X3 SUV to the US starting in 2026, but this depends on maintaining access to duty-free benefits under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa).
The Rosslyn plant in Pretoria is the only facility globally producing both internal combustion engine and plug-in hybrid models of the X3. BMW has invested R4.2-billion to prepare for this transition towards electric vehicles.
BMW told Moneyweb that, "We’re putting South Africa on the map, not only in terms of premium quality but also the numbers."
Currently, 97% of the X3 production will be exported, with Germany being the largest market. This expansion is expected to create thousands of jobs and significantly boost the local economy, highlighting South Africa's growing role in global automotive manufacturing.
