NEW: A Lakeville police officer was approached by a man with a gun early this morning and attempted to get him to drop his weapon.
A state trooper who was on his way home saw the confrontation and stepped in to help.
When the suspect raised weapon again, both officers fired.

- His rap sheet is 24 pages long including 4 separate restraining orders

Courtroom details:
- Lucas & Chace were allegedly smoking crack cocaine with friends all night.
- Chace was found unresponsive with head trauma and a bloody hammer was found near her body.
- Lucas fled the scene and hid in his brothers shed down the road

Police say they were called here around 4:24 this morning and found 44-year-old Heidi Chace dead inside.
A half a mile away on Burns Lane they found 54-year-old Matthew Lucas hiding in a shed.
