"I'm honored, deeply humbled, and grateful to Montgomery County families and taxpayers for your support in helping me advance to the November general election for the Montgomery County Board of Education At-Large seat.

This campaign has never been about party labels. I am focused on rebuilding academic excellence as our foundation in MCPS, establishing real school safety, supporting our teachers, ensuring responsible budget allocation with transparency as a guiding principle, and treating parents and community watchdog organizations as the partners they are. Even across political lines, the reaction to an FDA policy that allows people to obtain abortion drugs in the mail and without a doctor is the same.

Jona Affholder’s case shows the urgent need to protect women from the coercion and abuse enabled by a mail-order system with no real safeguards & to ensure unborn babies' lives are not violently ended.

Her abuser is now awaiting sentencing.

This is not theory. It’s true crime.

The true school-to-prison pipeline is illiteracy. Not School Resource Officers. Here's what the data says:

🚨70% of incarcerated adults perform at the lowest two literacy levels.
🚨Children who cannot read by 3rd or 4th grade are 4x more likely to drop out.
🚨High school dropouts face incarceration rates 63x higher than college graduates.
🚨85% of juveniles in the court system are functionally illiterate. This is the real pipeline.

In #MCPS, one of the wealthiest school districts in the country:
🚨Only 48.3% of Black students are proficient in ELA.
🚨Only 34.3% of Hispanic students are proficient in ELA.
🚨In math: 22.9% and 15.7% respectively.
The achievement gap has not closed meaningfully despite years of rising budgets.

Properly trained School Resource Officers do not criminalize students. Per RAND, NASRO, and the DOJ COPS Office, they
✅build relationships,
✅de-escalate conflict,
✅lower juvenile delinquency rates district-wide,
✅and connect at-risk youth to services before they enter the justice system.
SROs protect our neighborhoods, not just our school hallways.

Opponents say SROs criminalize students. The data says otherwise.
📔In a district of 160,000 students, only 296 received out-of-school suspensions in the first 5 weeks of 2025-26.
📔That is 0.19% of the student population. Montgomery County is not criminalizing its students. The fear-mongering is not grounded in data.

A child who does not feel safe cannot learn. A child who cannot learn will not read. A child who cannot read will not graduate. A child who does not graduate is statistically more likely to end up in the criminal justice system. Safety and academic excellence are not in conflict. They are the same commitment.

MCPS principals, MCAAP, the Fraternal Order of Police, Adam Van Grack, and Yamil Hernández all support bringing back SROs. I am the only At-Large Candidate for Board of Education who supports the return of SROs. Dr. Carey Wright, architect of the Mississippi Miracle, is now Maryland's State Superintendent. Yesterday, after the League of Women Voters debate, an #MCPS teacher approached me to share with me her own experience of administration pressuring her to change grades so that her students would pass and then graduate.

One case stood out in particular: She assigned high school senior in her class a project to complete to show content mastery after they missed *60 days worth of school*. Administration said she was creating obstacles and to remove them.

Unfortunately, this is not anything brand new to MCPS. When I taught at Gaithersburg High School, I had the audacity of maintaining the integrity of my grade book instead of changing a students’ grades so that they could play. Other teachers experienced the same pressure.

What would graduation rates look like in MCPS if grade inflation didn’t exist? If we stopped social promotion?

The veneer of excellence is collapsing, as it should. Now is the time to do the hard work of performing a proper forensic analysis in order to rebuild the foundation of academic excellence within MCPS.

What a weak show of machismo.

If you’re so concerned about our children’s future here in our county, you’d know that the path to success lies in literacy and numeracy, not in activism, especially at the tender age and immaturity of adolescence.

You’d demand higher behavioral and academic standards.

You’d call for fiscal prudence for proper and accountable management of taxpayer resources.

You’d know that SROs promote school and community safety by acting as a trusted resource in the building.

You’d stand by parental rights, especially in these turbulent times that can put our children at risk.

Finally, you’d endorse a Board of Education candidate who actually is from Gaithersburg, taught at Gaithersburg High School, raised a family here and is invested in the community. You’d endorse a candidate who meets with Wootton parents and cares to hear their concerns.

Instead, you endorsed @ZimmermanforBOE , a candidate who can’t even bother to return Wootton parents’ phone calls or emails after winning the Board of Education election and is supposed to represent District 2. She can’t bother to respond to parents even after a school shooting.

Politics is just a game to you. Proven time and again, as with many of Montgomery County’s elected officials.

Last night, I had the opportunity to meet with a number of Wootton High School parents about Superintendent Taylor’s rushed and ill-advised recommended closure of their beloved high school, a central part of their neighborhood and the greater Rockville community.

I echo parents’ deep concerns over MCPS and the Board of Education’s longstanding mismanagement of Wootton High School’s facilities. However, Option H, as proposed by Superintendent Taylor is far from an acceptable solution. In fact, Option H must be rejected and removed from consideration entirely, as it aims to divide and remove a community from their own long-established roots.

I commend the Rockville Mayor and Council for their unanimous letter to the BOE opposing the Superintendent's recommendation to close Wootton High School and advocating for a 'Modified Recommendation.' I also applaud the unified effort between Magruder HS and Wootton parents in their most recent statement. As a current MCPS parent, former Gaithersburg High School teacher, resident of the impacted Crown neighborhood, former Wootton JV Softball Coach, and current Board of Education candidate, my ties to both the Gaithersburg and Rockville communities are strong. I stand with families across these two cities who demand transparency and collaboration from the Board of Education and the Superintendent in determining how best to proceed in honoring the integrity of both communities.

This modified approach, keeping Wootton and Magruder as comprehensive high schools, opening Crown to serve Gaithersburg immediately, and sequencing modernizations responsibly, aligns with my commitment to parental rights and community involvement. Parents deserve a seat at the table when boundary changes that affect their children's daily lives are being considered. Their voices should not only be heard– they should be heeded by the Board of Education. Top-down mandates from an unelected official such as Superintendent Taylor are wholly unacceptable.

Furthermore, local Rockville leaders proved these recommended changes from Superintendent Taylor ignore Rockville’s projected housing growth and long-term capacity needs. Plans made by community leaders with community input should be secure from this sort of unilateral interference from an appointed official. The Board of Education must halt its endless rubber-stamping of MCPS policies fueling fraud, and mismanagement. The only result is the total erosion of trust in our most vital and precious institution: our public schools!

We must also tie these plans to fiscal prudence: Establish an independent Inspector General to root out waste, ensure budgets deliver measurable improvements in safety and academics, and reinstate SROs to protect our schools amid rising incidents. Let's build for the future by building trust. Collaboration is the only way forward.

WE’RE BACK!!! Today we knocked on nearly 100 doors, walked 5.93 miles, and took 12,615 steps across Damascus, Maryland (God’s Country).

Our canvassing total now stands at 3,062 doors in District 9A. I assure you that my opponents are not putting in the same level of effort to engage with voters directly and discuss how state government can effectively serve their needs.

The #1 issue in 2026 is energy. Maryland Democrats and my opponents have waged war on reliable energy sources, and voters are feeling it. Skyrocketing BGE bills and an unbearable cost of living dominate every doorstep conversation. It is truly heartbreaking to hear these distressing stories. In Annapolis, I will streamline permitting, slash regulatory burdens, keep Brandon Shores and Wagner online permanently, end RGGI participation, and eliminate the EmPower surcharge that punishes ratepayers.

Public safety is on the ballot too. Last week, Montgomery County Public Schools suffered another shooting, something unimaginable when I was a student there. My opponents stand by while radical progressives in local government remove school resource officers and gut the Maryland Safe to Learn Act. It's why my opponents are Calvin Ball and Marc Elrich's favorite state delegates. In Annapolis, I will strengthen that act, restore the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights, hold violent juvenile offenders accountable, and repurpose Maryland’s four closed juvenile facilities as vocational and rehabilitation centers.

My heart goes out to the student injured in today's shooting at Thomas S. Wootton High School, their family, and the entire school community. We all wish for a full and speedy recovery, and stand in solidarity with them during this difficult time.

This tragic event highlights the urgent crisis in school safety across Montgomery County Public Schools. The removal of School Resource Officers (SROs) from our schools in 2021, led by Councilmember Will Jawando, has left a void in proactive security and support for students and staff. Without SROs on site, incidents like this underscore the consequences of prioritizing ideology over practical measures to protect our children.

Our schools need immediate leadership to restore SROs and implement comprehensive safety strategies. It's time to restore the safety and security of our children above all else.
