A far greater premium must be placed on the transparency of the appointment process as a key step towards restoring public confidence in the justice system. The justice system is a public service and public confidence is imperative. [3/3]

Following the resolution at the 91st NJC meeting to recommend 70 individuals for appointment, the Justice Reform Project has issued a letter to the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria calling for increased transparency in the appointment and promotion of judicial officers. [1/3]

The letter also contains a request under the Freedom of Information Act for a disclosure of all information relating to the nomination of the 70 approved individuals. The JRP notes that the public uncertainty as to the transparency of the process is a cause for concern. [2/3]

The JRP remains committed to ensuring an improved, efficient and effective justice sector and eagerly anticipates feedback from the Hon. Justice Olabode Rhodes-Vivour-led Committee.

At the 91st Meeting held virtually on 23rd and 24th April 2020, the National Judicial Council constituted a 10-man Committee to ensure the continued operation of Courts despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The JRP has issued a letter to the Committee volunteering its support
