We had the opportunity for an in school field trip for Grade 2 to build their own Inukshuk Soapstone art. Students explored a variety of centres discovering more about Inuit communities from the past!
This week we are exploring the concept of addition and subtraction through play, games, manipulatives, and representing numbers using number sentences!
Happy Earth Day! We created a representation of our planet with a collage style mosaic art piece. We also explored liquids by creating water filters. We designed, built, and experimented with our filters to determine if they work correctly!
Grade 1/2 built aluminium foil boats for one of our buoyancy experiments! Students were asked to design and construct their boats, and then make predictions about how many pennyโs it will take to sink their boats!
Grade 1/2 built boats out of plasticine while exploring โBoats and Buoyancyโ! Our challenge was to construct a boat that is able to float, and keep a Smarties box dry enough to eat!
We have moved on to the next stop on our Canadian journey, Nova Scotia! We are exploring the distance to travel from Alberta, and comparing natural resources between both provinces.
Grade 1/2 have been exploring 2D shapes, and created a design for a shape monster! Students built real life replicas using their designs, and also wrote about what shapes were used to build our monsters.
We began our Pumpkin inquiry today! While exploring perspective drawing, we looked at the parts of a pumpkin using our classroom pumpkin, and used oil pastels to create pumpkin art.
