Airbnbs in Cornwall pay council tax but get no rubbish collection, so they pay Biffa on top.

An awful lot of firemen are now volunteers.

NHS dentists don’t really work anymore, so you go private or you pull it out yourself.

Our roads are littered with potholes nobody fills. Your privately funded tyres and suspension are the collateral.

You are forced under threat of criminal prosecution to fund the BBC, and it’s so bad you pay for streaming to get news or entertainment anyway.

Your bins are collected fortnightly, so you drive to the tip. The tip now requires a booking, a permit and proof you live in the county.

Garden waste is a separate annual subscription. On top of the council tax that used to cover it.

Your GP surgery is an 8am phone lottery, so you pay £40 to an app to speak to a doctor in a different time zone.

CAMHS has a two year waiting list, so parents remortgage for private assessments.

Your child’s SEN provision is a legal entitlement, so you hire a solicitor to sue the council for it. The council spends more fighting you than the support would have cost.

Physio is a forty week wait. Your back does not have forty weeks.

Schools teach in portable cabins bolted to the playground because the actual building is held up by aerated concrete and hope.
Half of them are technically insolvent.

Parents fund the reading books, the glue sticks, the photocopier, the roof and increasingly the teachers wages - all via a PTA raffle and local fundraisers.

The state offers “free” childcare hours that don’t cover the nursery’s costs, so the nursery bills you a “top up fee” for the free thing.

Shoplifting under £200 is functionally legal, so Tesco hires guards - who crucially don’t even try to stop it - and you pay for them in the price of the milk.

999 takes an hour, so you buy the Ring doorbell, gather the evidence, file the report and get a crime number for the insurance you also pay for.

Court backlogs run to years, so anyone with money settles privately and everyone else gets nothing.

Legal aid is gone. Represent yourself.

Passport and DVLA backlogs are chronic, so the state sells you a fast track service to escape the queue the state created.

The trains are late whoever owns them, so you drive on the roads with the potholes.
Public toilets are shut, so you buy a coffee you don’t want.

The library is staffed by pensioners working for free.

Street lights are switched off at midnight to save money in a country with a burglary charge rate near zero.

You pay National Insurance for fifty years and they move the pension age.

You pay the adult social care precept every year and then sell your mother’s house to pay for adult social care.

Leaseholders pay for a “waking watch” because the state signed off the cladding and then billed the residents to fix it.

Social housing sits on the most valuable land in Britain, allocated by need rather than proximity to work, 48% of zone 1 social housing is occupied by foreigners mostly welfare dependent - while the nurses, teachers and other workers who keep zone 1 running commute ninety minutes each way from Kent because we stopped building anything in 1979.

Every one of these is a service you have already bought. The receipt is your payslip.

The tax burden is heading for its highest sustained level since the 1940s. The service level is the worst in living memory.

You are not overtaxed or underserved. You are actually BOTH, simultaneously, and the gap between the two is where your standard of living went.

The state has become a subscription you cannot cancel and cannot use.

If people genuinely believe Burnham won’t receive the exact same media onslaught, they’ve not been paying attention.

Starmer is not, objectively, bad. This idea that he is somehow the worst PM in British history is frankly laughable.

Liz truss lasted 49 days, crashed the pound and was laughed out of Downing Street.

Since Labour took office, Keir Starmer’s government has:

• Scrapped the two-child benefit limit, lifting hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty and putting money back into some of the hardest-pressed households in the country.

• Expanded free school meals, cutting costs for families and making sure more children get a proper meal during the school day.

• Expanded funded childcare, reducing one of the biggest monthly costs facing working parents and making it easier for people to stay in work.

• Raised the National Living Wage, increasing pay for millions of low-paid workers.

• Strengthened workers’ rights, giving people greater protection against insecure work and bad employers.

• Introduced statutory sick pay from the first day of illness, so workers are less likely to choose between their health and their wages.

• Ended no-fault evictions, giving renters more security in their homes.

• Brought rail operators back into public ownership, taking key services out of failed private hands and giving the public a stronger stake in how they are run.

• Cut NHS waiting lists from their post-pandemic peak, meaning more patients are being seen sooner.

• Raised the state pension through the triple lock, protecting pensioners’ incomes against rising costs.

• Scrapped the old non-dom tax regime, making some of the wealthiest people in the country pay more fairly.

• Added VAT to private school fees, raising money from those most able to contribute.

• Removed business rates relief from private schools, ending an unjustified tax break.

• Increased neighbourhood policing, putting more officers and PCSOs back into communities.

• Helped bring knife crime down, meaning fewer families face the devastation of serious violence.

• Recorded the lowest homicide rate since the 1970s, a material improvement in public safety.

• Created Great British Energy, giving Britain a publicly owned clean energy company.

• Created the National Wealth Fund, backing investment in industry, infrastructure and clean energy.

• Passed planning reforms aimed at getting homes and major projects built faster.

• Improved relations with the EU, reducing diplomatic hostility and rebuilding practical cooperation.

• Agreed a UK-EU security partnership, strengthening cooperation on defence and European security.

• Signed a long-term partnership with Ukraine, reinforcing Britain’s support against Putin’s invasion.

• Secured new trade agreements, opening up markets for British businesses.

• Helped restore seriousness to government after years of scandal, chaos and decline.

People do not have to like Starmer. They do not have to vote Labour. But pretending this is the record of the worst Prime Minister in British history is absurd.

Firstly, the Royal Family does pay taxes. Per the 1993 Memorandum of Understanding, they pay income tax and capital gains tax on all personal earnings.

The law exempts the monarch from inheritance tax due to the concept of succession, as well as and corporation/capital gains tax exemptions on Duchies' income.

This isn’t because Charles is a tax dodger.

It is because the role of the monarch is not a personal one. It is an institution owned by and owed to the nation, not any individual king or queen. Such is the nature of constitutional monarchy. It is an office of the nation.

Now let’s ignore the fact that £630million is several hundreds of millions away from making King Charles a “billionaire monarch”. We’ll call it a simple maths error on your part.

The monarchy plays an integral role in society, and brings in a hell of a lot of money for us, too.

The British monarchy is the most recognisable and venerated Royal Family in history. It is woven into the fabric of our nation’s identity. Millions of tourists visit London every year solely to see the Changing of the Guard, to take a tour of Buckingham Palace, to visit Windsor Castle or walk the cobbled streets of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh.

William and Kate’s marriage cost £30million. But do you know how much money it generated?

Official wedding merchandise sales generated £26 million, basically paying the wedding costs on its own.

Shops and pubs saw an approximate £500 million in extra revenue, while the city of London itself earned a £107 million economic boost from the ceremony.

Over 350,000 additional tourists visited the UK in April 2011 to celebrate, while the tourism authority VisitBritain estimated a £2 billion boom over the following years as a result of the Royal Wedding.

Harry and Meghan’s wedding? That generated an estimated £1 billion in increased tourism, income for shops and pubs, and merchandise sales.

The Diamond Jubilee? It costs the taxpayers roughly £1 million while the bulk of the celebrations were privately funded.

But it generated roughly £1.2 billion in increased profit from tourism and retail, including £846.84 million in direct celebratory spending from merchandise and official events.

I’m not even going to go into the soft political power of the monarchy or the magnitude of their influence in global peacemaking and diplomacy.

Not because it isn’t massive, but because we’re talking pure economics.

The Royal Family makes us far more than it costs us. In tourism, in culture, in charitable ventures, and indeed in taxes.

Not only is King Charles one of the most active philanthropists of the modern Royal Family, but he does in fact pay plenty of taxes, as does the rest of the wider family.

If you’re going to make an argument, at least get your facts right.

Because “the Royal Family is a burden on the taxpayer” is an age-old lie that simply doesn’t translate into reality.

What Reeves should announce today, but obviously won’t.

Everything costs more. Food, rent, mortgages, insurance, childcare, energy, basic goods, services, the weekly shop, a pint. Britain is getting poorer, faster.

People feel it, and they’re right. Inflation has eaten us alive. Wages wiped out. Savings eroded. Families poorer. Britain weaker.

We are getting ripped off. Why?

Because Britain is addicted to the size of its own state.

Here’s what Reeves should say.

Tax cuts. Lots of tax cuts.

- Raise the personal allowance dramatically - let people keep the first £20,000 they earn, minimum. No tax. It will cost, but the savings it will produce from encouraging people back into work will be vast,
- Slash Income Tax/National Insurance, especially on middle-earners who’ve been squeezed the hardest. This is uncomplicated, Rachel. REWARD HARD WORK.
- Remove the stealth taxes they all pretend don’t exist - fiscal drag and frozen thresholds which quietly rob the British people every year.
- Give overseas skilled British workers vast tax benefits to relocate their tax revenue and skills back to Britain. Bring them home.
- Cut back VAT, reduce fuel duty, cut alcohol duty, none of this sugar tax bullshit.
- Stamp duty, gone for British families. Let’s get the property market moving.
- Licence fee, scrapped. On the bonfire. Day one. More cash in the pocket for families.

Unleash British business

- Cut Corporation Tax to the lowest rate in Europe. Undercut them. Compete. Win.
- Push back dividend thresholds and taxes. If people are successful, ENCOURAGE IT.
- Abolish Business Rates for small firms. Bring our high streets back. Turkish barber/vape shop fraud crackdown too - let's root out the criminals.
- Slash Employers’ National Insurance - the single biggest reason small firms won’t hire more staff. OBVIOUSLY. We need to get that right down. Non-negotiable.
- Supercharge deregulation, especially for small businesses. A redtape bonfire visible from space. Let it burn.
- End the HR-ification of Britain. Bosses should be able to sack people, and they’ll end up actually hiring more because of that.
- Scrap IR35, immediately. Leave people to interface between themselves.
- Double the VAT threshold, possibly more. Overnight, vast growth will be unleashed from businesses hovering just under £90k. The figures show it already!
- Super-deductions for investment, including capital allowances and R&D incentives. Encourage people to invest and they will!
- Get police policing, and restoring some confidence for investment. Make Britain safer, and that will make Britain richer.

A brutal restructuring of the welfare state. And I mean brutal.

- No benefits for foreign nationals. If you arrive here, you contribute. If you’re here and you don’t? You leave. Billions saved, with one stroke.
- Mandatory work requirements for all those able to work. If you want support from taxpayers, you must give something back. A fair time to search for a job, but then you’re put to work. Picking litter or whatever else.
- Full disability fraud crackdown using data-matching and HMRC-style enforcement. Weed out the piss-takers.
- A cap on total household benefit claims - it should never pay more to stay home than to work. Never.

Drive for self-sufficiency.

- Domestic energy production on a huge scale, like we’ve never seen before. Drive that cost of energy down. Fracking. North Sea extraction. New nuclear. Gas storage. Cheap dependable energy = lower prices for everything. It’s that simple.
- Food security, with domestic output boosted and less reliance on foreign supply chains.
- Support British farming. Scrap the family farming tax. Use the public sector’s purchasing power to BUY BRITISH from our farmers. End dependency. Boost farming apprenticeships.
- A national infrastructure plan focused on logistics, ports, roads, and freight efficiency. The cheaper it is to produce and transport things, the lower prices fall. Places like Great Yarmouth with our fantastic port will boom. Stop building roads in Guyana, and use that money in Britain.

A robust plan to deal with the cancer of inflation.

- Immediate ban on money-printing (QE) without explicit Parliamentary approval. No more splurges by the Bank of England and that toad Bailey.
- Slash public spending - genuine far-reaching cuts. Nobody is safe. All departments.
- Foreign aid. Gone. Entirely. Billions saved overnight.
- Freeze all non-essential recruitment across the entire public sector (excluding front-line staff). A workforce pause, until inflation is under control. Then follows strict limits.
- A structured debt-repayment schedule, legally binding, to get those vast billion debt-interest payments falling. If you want some awful perspective - we now spend more on debt interest than on defence. No serious country on earth behaves like this. Britain does. It’s like some third world African tinpot dictatorship approach to economic affairs.
- We need to cut the debt, not just the deficit.
- Public sector pension liability - all off balance sheet. Needs a total overhaul as state employees are radically cut.

Stop importing poverty, crime and sex pests.

- Shut down all illegal migration with mass deportations, rapid removals, third-country processing, and no exceptions. Billions saved on abolishing asylum and related costs.
- Cut legal migration to net-negative, especially low-wage migration that undercuts British workers.
- Remove those who are a drain. If they’re claiming benefits, living in social housing, unable to speak English, refusing to contribute? Thanks, but your presence is no longer required. Bye.
- Deport foreign sex pests and criminals. Make our towns safe again. Watch how investment flows back into our dying high streets.

We must urgently cut back the bankrupt British state. Growth only comes from the following things.

A smaller state. Lower taxes. More people working. Fewer people scrounging. Cheaper energy. Stronger borders. Mass deportations. Actual production.

That is it. Reeves sadly does not have the balls to do what is necessary.

Britain needs an economic revolution.
