Prime is shortening our planet’s time
In 2018 Amazon produced 44million tonnes of CO2, roughly the same as the country of Denmark! It’s very profitable Prime premium delivery service is inefficient and a major contributor to this.
#OUB329 wk17. Reframing a discourse, is a powerful tool to draw attention to an issue, either through an innovative approach or shock tactics. Note the potential negative consequences; Andrew, Harry and Megan have reframed the discussion on the monarchy, possibly disasterously
#OUB329 Wk16. Looking at how workers in precarious employment are able to collaborate and resist employers, it makes you wonder if the vertical trade union structure is an anachronism. Organisations employing people in low wage precarious jobs should recognise the implications.
#OUB329 Wk 15. The four faces of Power and Resistance will help me understand factors at play in my work organisation. There is strong Dominance which is met with Escape resistance where employees lose faith in the mission
#OUB329 Wk15. This week I learned the forms resistance can take: ranging from overt resistance such as strikes through misbehaviour to covert dissent to undermine management. Recognising & understanding causes of resistance to achieve win-win outcomes is a key leadership ability
#OUB329 Wk14. As the world becomes more global. I feel there is less focus on community and local geographical areas. Some issues benefit from a local approach but are still likely to have to work within a national or international framework.
#OUB329 Wk14. In these fast-changing times, challenges facing leaders are becoming ever more wicked, meaning they need a team approach and involve complex interactions, with consequences of decisions harder to foresee. Challenges also evolve, with permanent ‘fixes’ less likely.
#OUB329 Wk12. Interesting that this week much of the case work was around public services, where arguably there are greater opportunities for win-win outcomes than in the competitive private sector, where often each group is trying to win a bit more out of the collaboration.
#OUB329 Wk12. The concept of having a ‘vision of success’ is powerful. Often during collaborations circumstances change, within the team or externally. The vision keeps the ‘big picture’, expected outcomes and behaviours in view despite these changes.
#OUB329 Wk11. As a leader it is important to be able to recognise when conflict is beneficial. I think a key leadership skill is to bring the conflict to an end at an appropriate time, minimising entrenchment of positions, so that people can go forward together.
#OUB329 Wk11. This week I learned that sometimes conflict is necessary to bring out different viewpoints and objectives so that these can be explored, and the relative merits assessed in order to make the best decision.
#OUB329 Wk10. The role of followers and their ability to influence leadership, particularly via social media, is complex and outcomes not necessarily predictable. Labour appeared to win the ‘social media war’ yet resoundingly lost the general election.
#OUB329 Wk10. This week I learned that leadership is not simply hierarchical; it also involves influencing and networking. This is something I will use at work, both in dealing with my managers and those who I am leading.
#OUB329 Wk 10 Update on my earlier tweet. Try this link for the Wk 10 Activity 2 article. I think its the correct one based on the reference in section 6.
