Despite being only about 3% of all colleges in the U.S., HBCUs are producing:
~70% of Black doctors
~70ā80% of Black dentists
~50% of Black lawyers
~50% of Black teachers
~40% of Black engineers
Great history lesson that I didnāt know
A lot of people ask why thereļæ½ļæ½ļæ½s always been a certain respect and love between Manchester United and Real Madrid.
They point to players whoāve worn both shirts.
They talk about modern connections.
But it goes way deeper than that.
It goes back to a time when one club was brokenā¦ and the other chose to stand beside them.
After the Munich air disaster, United wasnāt just grieving.
They were on the edge.
Players gone.
The manager is fighting for his life.
A future that suddenly didnāt look certain anymore.
While the club was trying to find its feet again, across Europe, Santiago BernabƩu and his Real Madrid side had just become kings of the game.
They had everything.
The best players.
The biggest stage.
The European Cup is in their hands.
They didnāt need to look back.
But they did.
When Madrid lifted that trophy in 1958, BernabĆ©u didnāt make it about dominance.
He made it about respect.
He publicly dedicated it to Manchester United.
Not as a gesture.
As recognition.
Because he believed the team that had been lost in Munich was worthy of that crown.
And it didnāt stop at words.
Madrid offered real help.
They were willing to loan Alfredo Di StĆ©fano ā the best player in the world at the time ā to United.
Imagine that.
At your lowest pointā¦ another club offering you their greatest asset to help you stand again.
(The move never happened, blocked at the timeā¦ but the intention tells you everything.)
Then came the friendlies.
When United needed money, needed support, needed something to hold onto ā Madrid showed up.
They agreed to play matches, asked for almost nothing, and let United keep the gate.
They brought their stars to Old Trafford, not for gloryā¦ but to fill the stadium and help a wounded club survive.
Thereās a story from one of those games.
Madrid won heavily.
But after the match, BernabƩu hosted a dinner for United.
Not to celebrate.
To encourage.
He told Matt Busby something simple:
āYou are rebuilding. We will play you againā¦ and againā¦ until you are ready to beat us.ā
Thatās not rivalry. That's brotherhood, love
Respect at the highest level.
Thatās one giant recognizing anotherā¦ even when itās on its knees.
So when people talk about the connection between Manchester United and Real Madrid todayā¦
Itās not just about players moving between clubs.
Itās not just about modern football.
Itās about history.
About a moment when one club didnāt take advantage of anotherās painā¦
They protected it.
Thatās why, for some of us, Real Madrid will always feel different.
Not just another club.
But one that showed up when it mattered most.

On July 31, 1968, a young, black man was reading the newspaper when he saw something that he'd never seen before.Ā With tears in his eyes, he started running and screaming throughout the house, calling for his mom...
He would show his mom, and, she would gasp, seeing something she thought she would never see in her lifetime.
Throughout the nation, there were similar reactions.
What they saw was Franklin Armstrong's first appearance on the iconic comic strip "Peanuts."
Franklin was "born" after a school teacher, Harriet Glickman, had written a letter to creator Charles M. Schulz after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot to death outside his Memphis hotel room.
Glickman, who had kids of her own and having worked with kids, was especially aware of the power of comics among the young.
āAnd my feeling at the time was that I realized that black kids and white kids never saw themselves [depicted] together in the classroom,ā she would say.
She would write, āSince the death of Martin Luther King, 'Iāve been asking myself what I can do to help change those conditions in our society which led to the assassination and which contribute to the vast sea of misunderstanding, hate, fear and violence.'ā
Glickman asked Schulz if he could consider adding a black character to his popular comic strip, which she hoped would bring the country together and show people of color that they are not excluded from American society.
She had written to others as well, but the others feared it was too soon, that it may be costly to their careers, that the syndicate would drop them if they dared do something like that.
Charles Schulz did not have to respond to her letter, he could have just completely ignored it, and everyone would have forgotten about it.
But, Schulz did take the time to respond, saying he was intrigued with the idea, but wasn't sure whether it would be right, coming from him, he didn't want to make matters worse, he felt that it may sound condescending to people of color.
Glickman did not give up, and continued communicating with Schulz, with Schulz surprisingly responding each time.

She would even have black friends write to Schulz and explain to him what it would mean to them and gave him some suggestions on how to introduce such a character without offending anyone.
This conversation would continue until one day, Schulz would tell Glickman to check her newspaper on July 31, 1968.
On that date, the cartoon, as created by Schulz, shows Charlie Brown meeting a new character, named Franklin.
Other than his color, Franklin was just an ordinary kid who befriends and helps Charlie Brown.
Franklin also mentions that his father was "over at Vietnam."
At the end of the series, which lasted three strips, Charlie invites Franklin to spend the night one day so they can continue their friendship.

Over 120 colleges have closed since 2016, only one being an HBCU. So tell me again who is poorly running schools?
