You should study what makes you defensive. The topic you avoid, the joke that irritates you, the question that feels insulting, the feedback you instantly reject. Defensiveness is usually the guard dog sitting in front of a weakness you have not trained yourself to face.
The baby is only part of the birth. There's another birth that almost nobody talks about. The PLACENTA. For 9 months, your body grows an entirely new organ, an organ with one job keeping your baby alive. It delivers oxygen, nutrients, hormones, filters waste and connects two completely different circulatory systems without ever mixing your blood. Then, minutes after your baby is born that organ detaches from the wall of your uterus, and when it does, it leaves behind a wound roughly the size of a dinner plate. About 10 cm across, that is why you bleed after birth, because your body is healing a wound. At the same time, your uterus, which stretched enough to hold an entire baby, is working around the clock to shrink back down to its pre pregnancy size. Those after pains you're feeling those contractions, they are your uterus, squeezing itself smaller while compressing hundreds of open blood vessels to stop the bleeding. Now imagine this. If you had a wound that size anywhere else, on your body, on your arm, on your leg, your back, would anyone expect you to be back at work in a week? Would anyone expect you you to entertain visitors? Cook meals, carry a baby day and night smile for photos and get your body back, of course not. You'd probably be in the hospital on a drip. People would tell you to rest up. They'd expect weeks of recovery, yet when that exact wound is hidden inside your body, the world acts as though you should be back to normal almost immediately. 6 weeks later, you go for your postpartum, check up. Many women think it's a milestone that says, wow, you've recovered. It isn't. It's simply checking whether the bleeding has stopped, whether the placental wound has healed and whether your uterus is recovering as expected. It is not a certificate that says your body, brain, hormones, identity or even nervous system have all returned to normal. So if you've ever been wondering, why haven't I bounced back yet? Here's the better question why were you ever expected to bounce back from something this enormous in the first place? Your body is recovering from one of the most extraordinary healing processes a human being can experience. Give yourself some time and space to recover.
I’ve always known, but experiencing first hand why they say you should guard certain things from certain people is such a humbling yet transformative experience. Like yeaaaa you might be one of the opps here cause why are you always discouraging or speaking negatively over stuff?
if you spend all day at a fish market, you’ll leave smelling like fish, even if you never touched one
but spend your day in a perfume shop and you’ll carry the scent even if you didn’t buy anything, that’s how environment works. it rubs off, whether you realize it or not. stay around complainers and everything starts to look negative. stay around excuse makers and growth feels optional but get around people who move with purpose, you’ll feel it.
get around people who live in gratitude, you’ll start to see differently. the scent of your environment will always follow you.
They were right about running I fear. Once you get into it, you really don’t want to stop. I told myself I was only going to run for 30 minutes. I ended up staying almost a whole hour.
That pharmacy wanted $116 AFTER insurance for two medications. Then gone tell me I can’t use good rx either. I walked right out and left them right there😭 uh uh. Not today.
My mom gave me similar advice: Said when she was a new mom, she hyper-fixated on the clock on her bedside table, mentally keeping track of how little sleep she got. Then she felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit: "What are you trusting in for your sustenance, the amount of sleep you get or me?" And from that point on she turned that clock around and didn't look at it anymore. Said her whole demeanor and mental outlook completely changed.
The same God who knit that precious baby in your womb is able to sustain you for the task at hand. He can make 8 minutes feel like 8 hours.
I severely underestimated how much endurance it takes to run long distances 😭. I ran on and off for about 3 miles but good grief. Let me lock in cause I can’t go out like that.
The instant guilt I feel when I eat something that I didn’t need<<<< I gotta get this snacking monkey off my back!!! But when I see some chips and cookies🫠 the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
People gotta stop trying to rewrite history on all sides man
- Pac & Biggie was exactly what everyone say they were
- Hov definitely rap hip-hop alongside Nelly, Eminem, & DMX in they time
- Wayne legit had a run like no other and made everyone respect him
- It was always a Big 3 (Dot, Cole & Drake)
- Wale, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Future, ASAP all was legitimately in the conversation as well
- Kanye was something we never seen
- Young Chop & Chief Keef birthed and changed the sound of music is so many ways
- Young Thugs influence (yes came from Wayne) but he had a lot of copy cats too
This is why Hip-Hop is so called dying cause instead of celebrating those who laid the groundwork or even those who contributed to the culture we rather do a whole
“Who listened to?” “You know XYZ was never” etc etc
We used to be able to enjoy the lyricism of Common but still turn up in the club to Lil Jon & never compared the too or put them against each other and now…everything is a versus no matter what and it’s either one side or the other….thats crazy AF
We can’t even let legacy artist do they thing, it’s always “too old” but in every other genre, longevity and age thrives and flourishes
I really want us to be better, I don’t want the culture I love so much to die, but this train is moving so damn fast towards an end and it seems like nobody cares to stop it
The early seasons of Chicago PD>>>> Voight is my guy!!! But I just have to say Atwater needs more screen time. The only Black man and they give him the most minor plots and storylines…
Ok I believe the notion that only you should be the one touching your eyebrows. You know your face. You know what looks best on you. Almost every time I get them done by other people, I hate them. But let me do them myself! I’m in loooooveeeee.
It finally happened…..one of the OGs saw me today and was like (jokingly) “girl you don’t have to be switching like that” and the other one gone say “she can’t help it, that’s right baby! All that junk in the trunk” LOL I think I’m getting the hang of it fr
Idk if sliding in DMs is still a thing….i would assume so since everybody is chronically on social media but looking back at my old ones, we were so cute🤣🤣 just young and tryna shoot our shots🏾😂😂
